Ruger Mini-14 2-Shot Okay... BATF!

The trigger group on the new Mini-14 is identical to the old. Yes, it will work. Also works on the AK-47, Garand, or any "Garand Style" trigger group. IIRC, the JARD is just a Garand style trigger like the AK-47 and Mini-14. Of course, the staple trick on the Mini only works on the Mini due to how the trigger and secondary sear interact.

i cant for the life of me figure out how the staple goes in the mini 14. i put in it but dose not work. im not doing something right

Being kind of new to learning about guns, all I will say about government interpretations about 'wording' is that the FAA can consider a pilot's license to be "altered" if it is encased in laminated plastic, even though the paper license itself is not altered.

With the federal government, there are often no appeals with any 'teeth' at all, and many interpretations are used to justify their grossly over-bloated bureaucracies and certain careerist motivations.

If the ATF has any staff who are as arrogant and arbitrarily vindictive as some elements within the FAA Medical and Certification Branch (happened to a friend), you could not pay me $50,000 to shoot a gun with such an alteration. Read up on what happened to expert Bob Hoover several years ago after a typical airshow (loop, then a roll with both engines shutdown/'feathered').
Some of them would have fit into Stalin's NKVD really well.

The 10/22 does not have a Garand-style trigger. As such, this won't work. I'm certain there are other ways to get it to fire on release, but I wouldn't try it if I were you.

2 shot Mini 14 / Mini 30 ARE Safe.....

1st. Soes any one remember when Ruger made a Full Auto version of the Mini 14 for LE only? My local class 3 dealer has one. 2nd. The staple two shot mod is completely legal and SAFE. I say safe because the bolt is in total lock-up before the trigger is released. You have to retrain you shooting in order to get accuracy. Remember the military is training their riflemen to shoot accurately with a 3 shot burst since this is more controllable than full auto. In my area we have a class 3 range for the sportsmen who like to shoot full auto and I've see the Ruger 2 shot Mini's in action. The shooters were getting decent accuracy with them. Check your local range to see if they allow class 3 weapons and if so you can shoot you 2 shot mini and remember to take a copy of the BATF letter with you. Practice with all your firearms for both sport and more importantly self defense. That's my two cents :)

First post on THR, but I have been reading it for as long as it's been around. However, I thought it was interesting to note how many people here are afraid of the government, and how many of you are afraid of your own guns. I think it says a lot about our current political climate, and how little faith some of us have in our own gun handling. Besides, I like zombie threads.

I have an M1 Garand that I put a new production stock on. Everything seem to fit right, but when I took it to the range I got double taps everytime. Kinda nerve racking when you aren't trying or expecting. Anyhow after looking things over I figured out that the new stock had just a little too much wood at the back where it mated with the receiver. Even though the Trigger group locked in tight; the stock canted the receiver just enough to keep the secondary seer from locking. I sanded a small amount of wood from the stock and everything worked as normal. So, what's my point..........I think you could simply put a small shim between the receiver and the stock and get the same result as the paper clip.

Thumbs up to Badger_Arms (Ressurecting thread again)

I do have an important question below but first; Thanks to Badger_Arms for all your info on this Mini-14 "Staple" method including the image and the BATF Letter (which I hope will help me at the range if the local Police show up!). I agree completely with and want to sum up all 4 or so years of your responses to the people calling this unsafe for the various reasons they have come up with. Stupidity on behalf of the shooter (gun owner or staple inserter if not the shooter in one of the cases) is absolutely the only thing unsafe about this method if you are;
A. First and foremost, Being stupid enough to do this mod to your Mini and then let someone "unaware" of it fire the weapon. (Yes I know, WAIT FOR IT)
B.(WAIT FOR IT) Being stupid enough to NOT remove the staple when your use of it is over (or even after just putting the gun down). It took me about 15 seconds to put in my very first staple (which was successful BTW) and takes about half that time to pop it out, therefore you should do so for good measure.
C. Being stupid enough to fire a shot in a situation that you have even the slightest possibly to not want the second round fired.
D. Being stupid enough to hold back the release of the trigger long enough for the above mentioned situation to arise (which basically defeats the purpose of the mod if you do so anyway so that's a bad argument).
E. Being stupid enough to "Not be prepared" for the gun to fire again upon release of the trigger, which would / should ONLY ever happen if you are either STUPID or you are the "someone" in my example - A. (which is a result of stupidity as well).
F. Being stupid enough to do any of the other "what-if's" argued to Badger_Arms over the years.

Personally I do agree there's not much of a practical use for this and it IS mainly for the "cool factor" for those of us that spend their money on kid's toys for their children and can't afford the real deal. So now that I've used the word "Stupid" enough to last this forum's lifetime I have 1 question: What is the "dreaded accident" that can happen mentioned by "JollyGreenGiant" in a previous post? Was he referring to this staple mod? I am a bit afraid the answer may nullify all my good points above, though I'm hoping it can add one more "Be stupid enough" to the list! Thanks guys, don't flame me too much! Just had a little time on my hands tonight...

This little bit of negligence in a box is an insanely bad idea and that letter up there proves that 1. The ATF does not care about firearm safety and 2. they have no interest in the world beyond the letter of regulations and codes.

Down that road lies Sotomayor & Kagan et. al. and the evolution from the rule of law to the rule by fiat of the the ruler's appointed lackey's.

not safe. i think its a bad idea!

save the touble an get a hell fire. what if your on a range an they vall a cease fire after you fire one wait to get on target? now your stuck there trying to explain why you cant let go the rifle cuz it will fire again.

if i was the RO an you had that i would throw your butt so far off that range you coundt find your way back.

once again. not safe! bad idea
That's an ignorant simplistic mindset. You don't just fire one shot and hold the trigger. Each time you shoot, you commit to firing two shots in rapid succession, and then you carry that action out according to that commitment (In such a way that it is effectively one action.

The way you worded your post was as to suggest that a person firing such a weapon would have no choice but to fire once by compressing the trigger, and then hold it. It would be ridiculous for a person to operate such a weapon in that manner, and doing so would be the choice of the shooter. It's foolish to assume that an unsafe situation such as the one you described is inherent.
