Ruger P95 Thoughts

I was wondering what is the consensus on the Ruger P95 9mm? Accurate trigger easy to handle grip any others?

i had one for a few months, it was at a great price, a ruger, and 9mm. the trigger was so so, not as good as the ruger p345 but usable. it was accuarte though and 100% reliable. However i do not care for da/sa guns, or guns with manual safeties so i sold it.
 
P95 is built like a tank. It does have a longer trigger than some semi-autos. Mine was very accurate and never jammed. I like the ambi-mag release - neat design. It got sold when our family went to all Glock armory at home (really regret that decision).

Glock does have more crisp trigger with shorter reset which allows faster follow-up shots/double taps. If you are not match shooting, P95 is a very good SD/HD pistol.

FYI, when we did a 15+ pistol comparison for most accurate factory semi-auto for an accuracy match, a P89 came out on top with 2.5" 25 yard shot groups off sand bags - nearest Glock was about 3.5" - 4"+. IIRC, P95 came out around ~4"+.
 
I have a P95DC i got for $200. I have no complaints about it. The grips is on the large end of things and the triger pull is long in DA with lots of slack in SA. Mine is very reliable. As other have said they are a great value.
 
Mine is great. The trigger is kind of odd but I shoot the thing very well. And by odd: It is very hard for me to keep my finger tip on the trigger for the whole pull...single or double action. It works much better for me to wrap my finger around the trigger and pull it that way. I have a big hand.
 
I'm new here and found this site after a search of the net seeing if anyone else has had the same problems I have. I have a P95PR15 that has been nothing but a nightmare. This gun has been back to Ruger 3 times. That is where it is now. The ejector does not work properly and jams repeatedly. This is the first time I have ever had trouble with a Ruger product. I have a P89 that I love. Hell I think that gun is indistructable. It has had thousands of rounds through. Left dirty and neglected, and never fails to perform. The 95 I bought in Feb must be a monday. The second time it went back I wanted it replaced. They talked me into giving it another try. I have been through all the questions, including did I clean it before first use? Yes. Ammo. This thing jams with any 9x19 that gets loaded into it. I just got done talking to customer service again today. They're going to get back to me about my request for a replacement. If I do get my hands on a working example I'll be glad to give my impressions. Until then I guess I'll just have to fume about it.
 
I've had a couple, as it is the cheapest 9mm I'd buy and rely on. I've never had a real problem.

The sight was not centered on the 2nd one, and I didn't notice it when I bought it.

I took out the set screw, and tried using a brass punch... I actually bent the bunch - it wouldn't budge. A hairdryer didn't help (for the locktight) either...

So, I called Ruger. They were super friendly and emailed me a return label in 2 min. They paid shipping both ways for the entire gun, and I got it back within 3 weeks.

Honestly, the best customer service I have had yet from any gun company I have ever dealt with.

Now, the gun is far from my fav, and I find that the trigger is not that great. But the gun works, and its not a bad gun.
 
You always have someone who has a problem gun, and thats too bad

But most people say the same thing about Ruger, built like a tank.
 
I've had one for 7 years now (it was my first handgun). It's reliable. Good price. Relatively accurate.

I will say though that it doesn't feel great in my hand. It's a bit thick and blocky in that regard. Overall though, it's a good value. I certainly will never get rid of mine.
 
I have nothing but praise for my P95. It feels good in the hand, granted not as good as some others I own but still a good fit. Sites are also easy for me to acquire, trigger pull is decent and reliablity has been 100% with everything I've put down the pipe. If I had to name one thing I didn't like I'd have to say the hammer. I'm not crazy about the Ruger hammers with the small dip on the top. One like the Beretta 92FS would be ideal for me. Aside from that small gripe it's all peaches and cream. A real workhorse that will last you a long time and won't break the piggybank.
 
My p95 works great, even with really bad after market 15 round mags. I polished the ramp to help it feed better. Still looks fairly new except for some slide smoothing from kydex holsters. A good reliable gun, and a safe gun to buy used usually. But don't spend more than $300 on one.

But it's big and uses an obsolete DA/SA trigger. I have no need for open carry oriented DA/SA guns anymore. It's either Glock, 1911, or Kahr p380 mouse from now on. Despite the great condition mines in, it's resale value about equals a can of soup........thats been dented.

I use it as something I can let newbs borrow at the range. The decocker is easy for them to grasp, the two bad trigger modes..... not so much. It made for a nice truck gun, but now I'm in the Peoples Socialist Republic of Ohio, and that's not allowed.
 
Phenomenal value as they can be had for <$300 all day long brand new and even $200 used and will outlast you. They're rugged and reliable, and accurate enough for self-defense. Plus they're rated for +P+ ammo from the factory, I believe. They'll feed and fire anything.
 
I have owned a smattering of them in the past and I like the overall package; if I didn't already have a Beretta 92FS and a Smith & Wesson M&Pc in 9mm I would most likely have a new one with the 'improved' texture on the grip and the integral rail; the Ruger P95 is one of the best handguns in its price range;

on a parallel note, I recently bought a used Ruger P97 in .45 acp; even though the aesthetics are a bit lacking due to use and age, it is 100% reliable for me and I have nearly 500 rounds thru it
 
I have owned a P95 for several years now. I 2nd the other posters complaints regarding ergonomics as the trigger pull is quite long and the reset is also. However it shares magazines with my PC9 carbine, has been very reliable and seems to hold up well to frequent use and abuse :) Very good pistol for the price in my opinion. Fits a wide variety of holsters and while certainly blocky not impossible to CCW with reasonable belt etc...
 
The P95 I own is an excellent handgun. I would have paid $100.00 more for it if needed. Reliable, not one FTF, very accurate and fits my hand like a glove. I think I was able to find the perfect gun for me, the ergonomics are excellent and I think that its looks are very appealing as well. I have found the trigger to be more than acceptable in DA and it breaks like glass for me in SA. I plan on getting a companion P95 as soon as possible.
 
I had a P95 got rid of it. I liked my P95 alot no failures what so ever. The problem was I didn't love it......And I realy wanted a Glock 22.
 
Well I have to say Ruger customer service came through. I was called yesterday and informed that they will be replacing my P95. I hope that the new one lives up to the quality i've come to expect from Ruger. The rounds that I did get through the defective one were easy enough, and reasonably accurate. I have no problem with the trigger pull or the ergonomics of the pistol. I don't know how it would be for people with smaller hands as I am pretty large.
 
Nothing more than a car gun for it built tough and costs peanuts. See what cost does to something that's a great item? I don't see why P95 is any less than Glock or Sig. Had it cost 800$ folks would be all over it. Thank you Ruger for pricing the gun for what it should be!
 
Update

Well Ruger did itself proud. They built me a brand new P95 off the line. I just took it to my hunting land this weekend. 150 rounds with no problems. Rapid fire was just fine. For a bargain price pistol the P95 offers a nice pkg. grips are a little small for my ham fists but the wife likes the way the gun feels. I'm not unhappy with customer service coming through in the end either. Way to go Ruger.
