Ruger Scout rifle problem

A scout rifle is pretty effective on cardboard targets out to 300 yards... But if your target had even an AK shooting back you would have to have nerves of steel to respond to his 30 rnd burst with an accurate shot from your bolt gun.

As I recall it's faster to get hits at even 100y in terms of number of hits per time with a bolt rifle than it is with a shoulder fired rifle on full auto spraying away and reloading. Full auto weapons need some sort of support and a lot of weight to be effective. By the time you get out at 300y the bolt rifle is so much more dangerous than the full auto AK it's not even funny. Obviously the effectiveness of the AK could be increased dramatically by firing on semi-auto and aiming.

I would honestly mount a conventional scope in the 1-4x or 1-6x range, you will still easily be able to shoot with both eyes open.
