My Application to join the club

I have been looking to complete this set with a speed six but just can't find one in my area and very few on gunbroker :(

I am also looking for two sets of nice grips and I am thinking about buying these http://www.badgercustomgrips.com/ruger_pistol_grips.php?pid=77

Hopefully these are good enough to get me accepted to the club.

Does anyone know if the .38s used a different cylinder than the .357s, or just the shorter .38 reamer?

Are all the sixes DAO, or was that just an option?

I recently bought my first Six. A .38 DAO Speed Six rebored to .357

Here's my entry.. (150-xxx)

There's a guy on eBay selling a bunch of 150 prefix custom grips right now if anyone's looking. I won the set I wanted so I'm not affraid to mention it publicly now ;)

This is the go to gun in the house loaded with Corbon DPX 357.

Now I'm SAD!! I want a really nice "silver" Service-Six to go along with the Blue one I posted on the first page!! LOL :neener:

Very nice looking Stainless models posted in this thread. There aren't any around where I live but at least I was able to get one in blue.

I recently purchased this Police Service Six, looking forward to shooting it! It is DAO - is there a simple modification to get it to DA/SA?

Started carrying a 4" Service Six for work in '81, changing over to a 4" Security Six along the way. It's still my CCW and most used handgun.

My agency had a bunch of 2 3/4" and 3" Speed Sixes, but I always preferred my 4". No harder to carry or conceal than the shorter ones, and easier to shoot well and full velocity with .357/125 loads.

Probably the best all-around utility revolver made in the last 60 years. My personal favorites are the original slim-barrelled guns as they balance better for me. I have Spegels on the ones I use most but nylon Hogue monogrips work fairly well too.

A lot of people think that Ruger made a mistake in dropping the line, and I am one of them. An updated version with the frame stub and the rubber GP-100 type stocks would be a real winner. Unlikely to ever happen, though.

I don't think it would be a simple do-it-yourself project, but I'm sure a competent gunsmith could do it. There would be some parts missing from the DAO gun, that would have to be installed.
Since this thread has been resurrected, here's my Security Six with an aftermarket vent rib. (Poor man's Python.)

Not very good at this, sorry.
The above are a brace of Speed Sixes in 9mm and Service Six in .357.

Nice collection tekarra but you suck :). I am looking for a speed six in 357 and in 9mm to complete my collections. Some of the ones I have come across on auctions sites look to beat up for me to buy and not be able to put my hands on them.

Yeah I am jealous

Ruger "Six" collection

Everybody has great stuff. Makes me wish I had more than one.

But when we talk about collecting Sixes, how many are there to get? I'm at the far end of collecting at least each barrel length of each of the three Six categories in both blue and stainless. I think that will be close to 20. But I figure there are plenty more. Anybody know??

And looking at Takarra's 9 mms, it looks like the butts of those guns are similar to the military versions of the Sixes ... sort of a rounded square. Is that a common variation?

OK,I'm in...,my Father gave me his security 6 for christmas this year. It's a stainless 4"...w/ a sweeeeet trigger.I have shot it every week at idpa since then....super accurate. The 6 series are way under valued by gun snobs. They are real working guns..not just pretty fragile safe queens. If I ever figure out the whol digital camera thing,I'll post some pix.

Gorgeous guns, you are making me jealous! In the next 6 months I'd like to pick up a Six for IWB carry. Or a K-Frame if I happen upon a bargain. I have no real preference, though I suppose I'd prefer a round butt, fixed sight Speed Six in 2.75 or 3" barrel length.

Questions:

1. Are 2.75 and 3" lengths available in the all 3 models ... Security, Speed and Service Sixes?

2. I believe the 2.75" models are more common than 3 inchers. How rare are the 3" guns?

3. I assume the 3" has a full length ejector rod (but not the 2.75"), right?

4. How much of a price premium would a 3" barrel add, versus a 2.75"?

Thanks for the help!

johninminnisota - is that a picture of your gun? If so, when you pull the hammer back, does it stay cocked? If so you don't need a gunsmith.

Sorry for the dumb question. Just askin', cuz usually a DAO 'Six will have a spurless hammer.
