Ruger SR 1911 or Remington 1911 R1 Enhanced

I'm waiting on my SR 1911 now. I really can't afford it, but what's that got to do with anything? It will be the 2nd gun this year I've bought without firing or even touching one. Not a good idea. I lucked out on the CZ Phantom, maybe I will with the SR 1911.

I called remington and got some info on the R1. Just trying to get the truth out there the slide and frame are both forged. That makes the steel a more robust grain formation meaning it will last longer. I have not done any home work on the Sr 1911 and have not shot ether so I have no way to know what one is better. I can tell you a kimber custom can be had for cheaper than the Sr and the R1 enhanced on Gunbroker. That company is all about good 1911 even after the occasional slip in qc.

I own an R1 that I have customized quite a bit (beavertail, extended thumb safety, new hammer/sear). Its been literally, 100%, no failures before or after modifications.

I don't think either one of them will treat you wrong. I have only handled the SR1911. It seemed as well made as my Remmy. Both are American made.

You're in good hands with either.

I own both the SR1911 and the R1 and they are both great accurate guns.

Both have a steel machined slides and investment cast frames. My question to everyone bashing the cast frame. Has anyone actually seen a cast frame break. Besides it isn't like the old days where cast iron was as brittle as a flower pot. Investment casting and MIM produce very high quality and very strong parts. The finish may be a bit rougher that machined steel, but we are talking about guns that sell for $600 to $800 instead of well over a $1000. Even Colt uses MIM parts and plastic in some of their models to keep the cost down. Besides only 1% of 1911 owners will ever put enough rounds through one to wear the frame out, whether machined, forged or cast.

I also would not call the quality of the R1 poor. It is made in an economical manner so everyone can afford it. The accuracy of both these guns is the same as a Wilson or Kimber in most peoples hands. If you can out shoot one of these two guns, you shouldn't be looking at them anyway.

Try looking at the S&W E series also. That's what I got and I love it.

Of the two you listed, I'd go with the ruger personally.

Ruger vs Rem 1911's

The Rem looks more like a GI series gun, than the SR1911 the Rem does not have a Bevertail + some of the extra's that come with the Ruger, Like a SS finish match trigger etc. I elected the SR191 for my decision. Now that's just me.

Have absolutely nothing against the Remmy R1 as I've never shot one. What I can say is I am really very pleased with my SR1911.

I have a stainless (not enhanced) Remington R1 and it shoots every bit as good as my father in laws Colt, S&W, and Kimber. Looks just as good too.
