I just put a Ruger SR1911 10mm on layway at my LGS. Is the grip/frame a little longer the that of the 45 version? Seems a tad longer to me but I really can't tell for sure.

Grip is same length as a 45.
Thumb safety disengagement was too easy (IMO), installed new plunger tube spring and put slight detent on thumb safety for more positive disengagement.
Black sights were not going to cut it for me, corrected with Dremel and paint (pics).
After about 300 rounds, I put in a 22# recoil spring which reduced distance brass thrown by a few feet, stock spring felt like 18# (subjectively).
Pistol has fired about 400 rounds now (all hollow point), no problem, carry either it or Delta Elite.

I used some of my daughters bright orange nail polish and it works great. I have about 200 rds through mine and I was thinking about changing the recoil spring.

The frame size is the same as any 1911. They are good shooters and the supported barrel is cool too.

I've been carrying my Ruger 1911 in 45. Looking at the 10mm for black bear/hog country. I once owned a Glockachoo in 10mm but really didn't like it. Felt to big and boxy. Somehow the 1911 fits me better and has always been my favorite. Once a Marine always a Marine. (Old corps)

Can anyone chime in on if the Ruger has a fully supported chamber or not? That's a deal breaker for me, to a point that I sold my Delta Elite.

I have 10mms in Govt and CCO configuration.. First thing I did was install EGW firing pin stops.. These slow the slide, reducing recoil and reducing the need of stronger recoil springs, muzzle dip, and slide battering. Not to mention the fired case ejection.

Ruger has a ramped barrel.
My Delta bulges brass slightly, Ruger does not, same ammo.

My delta bulged low pressure cases significantly. I traded it with full disclosure and a recommendation to rebarrel it. After that pistol I will not buy another gun that I'm not certain of the safe design.

With the exception of 175 Hornady Critical Duty, my Delta has only shot handloads (new brass) topped with hollow point.
My handloads are moderate to warm, not nuclear.
Hornady 175 Critical Duty @ 1,158 fps / 521# KE
Handload 180 Gold Dot @ 1,152 fps / 531# KE
Handload Nosler 180 JHP @ 1,228 fps / 603# KE
Handload Nosler 150 JHP @ 1,402 fps / 655# KE

I happened to eject a chambered round one day and saw obvious bullet set-back from the round only being chambered once.
Apparently bullet hits feedramp hard during feeding.
I had used a "factory crimp" on my handloads.
Nickel case is factory Critical Duty, brass is my handloads (two larger bullets are 180 Gold Dot @ 1,152 fps after 4 layer denim & water)

I ran all my loads through the "factory crimp" die again with increased force, this proved successful at reducing bulge on brass to less than in pic.
Delta has been 100% with over 400 rounds of various hollow point, not going to modify pistol.

I liked the looks of the Ruger SR1911 in 10 mm a lot, so I got one to tote around the property while the snakes are holed up during winter. I’m a revolver guy, but have a love for 1911’s. It is a gun that I shoot well and the Ruger does not disappoint. It is surprisingly soft shooting even with Buffalo Bore 225 grain hard cast RNFP Outdoorsman loads. This thing is stiff to rack. Heavy spring.

None of my fired cases, even the heavy loads show any bulging whatsoever. The case head is well supported. I’ll have to get a set of carbide dies and shell holder, now. I love the extended safety. It is easy to sweep off when drawing. The magazines also drop clear. Have not had any malfunctions in a couple hundred rounds. The Ruger magazines are well designed and made. I got six.

I replaced the flat mainspring housing with an old Colt satin nickeled arched mainspring housing with lanyard loop that I had in a parts box. It naturally raises my point of impact and fits my hand better for this cartridge (for some weird reason, I shoot 45 ACP better with flat mainspring housings - go figure). I also replaced the front sight with a tritium night sight. I also replaced the factory grips with the Pachmayr wrap-around ones for better grip purchase.

So now I just had to get a carbine to keep it company...TNW ASR 10 mm, cause ya can’t have one...without the other...:)
