Any other HighRoaders seen this?

Picked up a long-awaited SR1911 on St. Patrick's Day. Took her to the range for the first time today firing various loads & bullet types with no snags. Was very please right up until I examined my spent brass to discover that every rim was badly mangled making them unserviceable for reload :scrutiny:.

Looks like the extractor is mangling the rim on both the load and extract cycle. Examination of the fired case that came along with the sidearm revealed the same signature mangling :(. Disappointed as I would have thought Ruger would have caught that at the factory when they test fired the weapon. At least on this occasion it appears the fired case was not examined for problems..shame. Intended to use her as my EDC too.

Good news is the factory is five minutes away; will swing by there Monday and have them take a look. Pending resolution guess I'll stick with of the Colts.

First time I have ever heard of it, and I have shot three different Ruger 1911s. I am sure if there is something wrong Ruger will fix it though. I just got a free hat and some decals in the mail today from them. Thier "tell the CEO" link on thier website obviously gets read by someone!

I've just started breaking in my Ruger SR1911, and it certainly doesn't like match ammo. I'm getting FTF's and dinged cases from it stovepiping the match ammo. I'm thinking "feed ramp" problem, but I haven't sent enough downrange yet to see.

I'll probably take ball ammo out next time and see if the same problems occur. If so, it's back to Ruger for a fix.

I've found 1911's are pretty foolproof if they're properly put together and using the right ammo, and I'm disappointed that this one has problems. I worked awfully hard selling Ruger products to get it, and was expecting much more out of it. It's a beautiful gun, and when it's "running" shoots great... but I don't like the mangled cases and FTF's I'm encountering. I expected more "out of the box".

Glad to hear that M2; reloading important to me as well and I am a big fan of Rugers. Hopefully it's a rare defect. I'm sure Ruger will make it right; just wish their Quality Control folks would have caught it before it left the door.

Mine exhibited some shoddy workmanship including some pretty serious casting marks. Sent ruger some pics and was told it was within "factory spec". Sold it with full disclosure for what I paid for it and bought a Springfield Loaded. Good luck friend, you will need it.

Mine has been a great pistol. No problems reloading brass and its fit and finish is as good as any of my higher priced 1911s.

I'd zip the extractor out and take a look at it. Might be the extractor, might be the extractor bore and might just be a bit of production/assembly nasties got in there not allowing the desired flex of the extractor.

Before heading over to Ruger called my retailer to let him know. Looking at the damaged cases they concurred with the assessment and rather than wait a couple weeks for repairs kindly offered a replacement sidearm. Kudos to Jimmie and Dave at Bucky O'Neill Firearms Prescott for their superior customer service.

And before you ask... yes indeed I did open the envelope to check the fired case for similar adverse indicators; none noted.
