Thanks BOARHUNTER
You tipped the scale for me.
Price, ergonomics, Ruger history, and your cool hunting story convinced me to buy my SR9.
After a few hundred rounds, a new holster and now a bunch of empty casings, here is my two cents :
The trigger pull has eased. The lower trigger parts that activate the firing pin mechanism on the upper slide drags across the vertical pin that releases the firing pin is starting to wear a bit after break in (Notice that there is no drag in trigger pull after stripping the upper slide). One can see the break in wear of this vertical pin upon a semi field stripping of the handgun. Still a bit of grit during trigger pull, but I am assuming it will break in further unless I should rotate this vertical pin. I did spin it, but spun it back to the wear mark.
Magazine loading is no problem using my provided loader. I read the post that suggests keeping the front of the round down while loading long balls in the mag and presto... fast, and fingers stay clean of metal residues. No lead or green fingers. Mag spring is softening as previously stated.
Out of the box the gun was clean internally. No grit, filings, just the right amount of oil. It had wear as far a dry firing, because it was kept on display with an empty magazine for viewing (ser# is 5000+). I purchased it from Sportsman's W in Las Cruces, NM for $460 with tax. Awesome after comparing it to other comparable models in this class (polymer striker fire 9's). My Dad loved shooting it and is going to order the stainless black. The rear sight was way off out of the box, but we had it sighted in after the first mag.
The Mag Release:
Rotates during release causing more pressure applied to do so. Some complained, but not a problem for me. I prefer this. I would rather push harder than end up with a mag in the dirt.
Now for the holster: perfect fit in the Galco Gun Leather Glock 17 model with the snap closure. The angled rear of the slide breaks in the leather snap in about two days of storage in the holster. $65 bucks with tax at the same store later after I decided it was a keeper.
Low recoil, sleek, accurate. Would recommend it to any 9mm prospective buyer.
Boarhunter:
Does your opinion still stand on the overall performance of the SR9?
This holster is a mate for my new Ruger...
You requested holster reviews for the handgun. This one is great for open/target range use. I haven't checked if Galco offers it in service black. One of my pics gives the actual model number of the the holster.
Thanks again for your posts.
