Quite simply which handgun should i buy.

The Ruger SR9c or the Smith and Wesson M&P9c

A simple answer will suffice, but if you want to add more then I will listen to what anyone has to say intently.

Thanks, and let the games begin.

You need to go try them both and see what you like best. I prefer M&Ps, but everyone is different.

How about you be more specific too? What is it going to be used for?

I had both on the counter at the gun shop trying to decide a couple years ago. I had gone there with the intent of getting the SR9. Being a diehard S&W fan it took me quite q while to decide but I walked out with the SR9. No regrets at all, but then again, it was a win, win situation.

I don't have any experience with the M&P 9c or anything from the SR series, but I do own an M&P 45c and it has been flawless since day 1. Almost 5000 rounds down the pipe, and no malfunctions of any kind. Simply prefect. You cant go wrong with anything from the M&P lineup. I have heard if some extractor issues coming from the SR's lately, so IMO it's a no brainer.

Buy the 9c and call it a day! :)

OK, I'll start the rumor... I heard of extractor issue with the M&P, so it's a no brainer...

Either is a fine choice, and both are American made. Which makes either an even better fine choice in my opinion.

You could ask yourself a couple of questions to help decide. Do you want/need safeties?. The Ruger's all come with safeties, The M&P, either way (although I don't believe you can have a manual safety and a mag safety on the same gun, least I recall they don't offer a model with both). Both are super easy take down. The Ruger comes with a reversable back strap, while the M&P comes with replacable wrap around straps (not all the way around).

I have one of each in the 9c, Both have been 100% reliable, but I tend to favor the Ruger when just target shooting.

Don't know about your area, but you can probably find the Ruger for about a 100 cheaper than a S&W, if that matters. 100 bucks can buy a lot of ammo, or some ammo and a good holster.

I bought the M&P about 4 years ago. Tried to like it but couldn't master the trigger's hard "snap." Finally gave up and sold ir.

Bought an SR9c with the money from the Smith. Loved it - especially the trigger.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Ruger, and I have emailed them about adding a .45 to the SR-series.

Mine does. I think it is because it is a special Maryland approved model. Though I do not live there. They sure dont seem common.

The M&P 9c is the best auto I've ever owned. Never fails, eats everything, nuts on accurate. Rented them both and a Springfield before I bought and they were all good, but I shot the M&P better and it fits my hand better. I don't have a problem with the trigger. You're the only one who can ultimately decide.

Both are good, however you should also compare them to the Glock 19. That would generally get all of the best in this class of handgun. Any one of them will be a good choice.

I like the M&P better, but the SR9c fits my hand better. Also, I hate thumb safeties, but like the other safety features of the SR9c. M&P is better for carry if you don't chamber a round (my opinion), but the SR9c would be OK with a round in the chamber. Lastly, the Ruger may be a better choice if you have young children unless you have a full-proof alternative plan for keeping everyone safe.

It's really a toss-up to me. LOL

No "trigger time" with the Ruger. I have owned the S&W, and it was outstanding, functioning perfectly from the very first round. I would still have it but for some circumstances not germane to the topic.

Considered and tried them both, along with glock and XD for my EDC. Ruger won out on account of it fits my hand great, is way to accurate for its size and I love the trigger (the only failing for the M&P IMHO).

The Ruger is also really, really slim and conceals very easily.

While I have only had the M&P9C for a month or so. I really like it. I find I shoot it far better than my Glocks I have had for years. Im not saying my Glocks are inaccurate and certainly not saying I can squeeze them to their potential. I am saying I shoot it better.

Interesting. I don't believe S&W shows a model on their website with both. Seems I got my information from an article I was reading the other day, but can't remember which magazine it was in or if I got it off of gallery of guns.

if I may... why? I thought the whole purpose of carrying, was to carry loaded.

Considered both and many others and went with the SR9c. Main reason was I lined them all up side by side and the ruger was the most compact and looked like would be the easiest to conceal. Also liked the ergos the best, liked the 10 and 17 round option and it was basically the least expensive. Was a pretty easy decision for me. My Dad has the M&P 40 and I really dislike the trigger. Very gritty.

I have a 9c. Very accurate, reliable, and concealable. Carry with one in the pipe, and use the mag disconnect when holstering and unholstering along with trigger considerations.

Don't let a bunch of strangers on the internet decide what gun you buy. You have to find out which one is best for you. Go out and at least handle them, shoot them if you get the chance.

I prefer M&Ps mainly because I don't like all the safeties on the Ruger. I doubt you can go wrong with either.

If you go to the 10-8 forums you'll see that several Police departments have had problems with severe accuracy issues with S & W M & P's in the 9mm platform. As many as 6 of 10 guns were returned by more than one department for literally spraying rounds all over the place. The M & P plaform has been great in .45, and good in .40, but the 9mm accuracy issues scare me.

I work part time at the gun counter at a big box gun shop and we sell a pile of SR9c's, whiel they are not my first choice they seem to be quite reliable and a very good value. I really believe that it's hard to beat the Glock 19 gen III in a 9mm set up. And I'm not a Glock fan boy by any means.

I don't know about the M&P 9, but I was shocked how much my Dad's 40 sprayed bullets all over the place. About the least accurate gun I've ever shot.
