Hans Blix is John Kerry's first cousin?
He said that he didn't say "immediate threat".
The only time in the quote that he used immediate was:
"No terrorist state poses a greater or more immediate threat"
".
Have to do with the topic of the thread which is that Donald Rumsfeld was caught in a king sized lie when he claimed that neither he or any other major player in the Bush administration had ever claimed that Iraq posed an "imminent threat" to the US?
some have argued that the nu'--this is you speaking--`that the nuclear threat from Iraq is not imminent...I would not be so certain.
The info I saw was that the UN pulled them out, they were not physically expelled. There was constant dissatisfaction with the inspectors because they weren't finding anything.... possibly because the stuff was long gone. They assumed it was not being found because Iraqi's were hiding it, but they claimed there was nothing there. At this point, we don't know for sure but we do know this: Bottom line, the scientists who worked there agreed on one thing: standing orders were that weapons programs are on hold until inspectors leave. The inspectors were the ideal (and cheap) way to keep Hussein toothless and were accomplishing that end.Again, why did he kick the inspectors out if his goal was to be inspected?
bountyhunter,
The quoted peice supports nothing but if you say it over and over and over and over...someone might actually believe it.
,
He said he would not be so certain "that the nuclear threat from Iraq is not imminent". He did not say in the quoted piece that he was certain they were an imminent threat but that he was NOT so certain that they were NOT a threat.
Don't know what earth youy were on, but the UN specifically said force was NOT authorized because the violations did not warrant it. period.
13. Recalls, in that context, that the Council has repeatedly warned Iraq that it will face serious consequences as a result of its continued violations of its obligations;

_Iraq's Weapons of Mass Destruction Programs_ From the CIA, the best information we can get.
Iraq's aggressive attempts to obtain proscribed high-strength aluminum tubes are of significant concern. All intelligence experts agree that Iraq is seeking nuclear weapons and that these tubes could be used in a centrifuge enrichment program.
"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." - Thomas Jefferson
Bottom line, the beast (that's us) is loose in the heart of the Arab/Muslim world.
Um, Idd, check these sources about the T.J. quote- 4 & 20 blackbirds make a pretty good pie.
Yes, this is the larger question. If Bush et al. lied about the reasons for the war, why did they lie, and what were the real reasons? Most US citizens don't really want it thrust in their faces that the US dominates other countries militarily for economic reasons, that blood has been and will be spilled for CHEAP oil, etc. What has been said about Bush's premediated intentions might be true. But one intention not really discussed is the geo-political impact of invading Iraq ... in the end all of this may be good ... Bush is positioned to smash any of them on short notice.
Nope...I personally think that both parties could take lessons in how to win friends and influence people. Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Bush and Senator Kerry included. And you (Moa, GoRon, and TaurusCIA) appear to support it.
Debarred the Use of ArmsProve me wrong. I'm throwing down the gauntlet.
"The strongest reason for people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." --Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334 (C.J.Boyd, Ed., 1950)
Even if the first quote is not authentis the second seems to verify TJ's feelings on the matter"... God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. ... And what country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure." -- Thomas Jefferson, Nov. 13, 1787, letter to William S. Smith, see Jefferson On Democracy, 20 (S. Padover ed. 1939).
