Well, I am slowly finishing up the powder stash.

38 specials claimed all but a few onz of the Trailboss.
357 Magnums used up the Blue Dot and 2400
10mm cleaned up the AA7

Fortunately I have h110 for 357 Mag still as I have about another 2000 pieces of brass and I have several pounds of 4756 for the 38 super I will load next. After that I have Unique and 4756 for 38/44 to load.

I figure I can go another 4 to 6 months before I have to get creative. I am now starting the list of 8 lb kegs to buy.

Lets see:
Trailboss (5 lbs)
2400 (8 lbs)
ClayDot (8 lbs)
Unique (8 lbs)
Bullseye (8 lbs)

I can get a couple three of more 8 lbs and maybe a few singles that makes a full 70 lb hazmat shipment.

And IF you can find that stuff in stock or on a short backorder list, you might want to get your order going NOW

Last time I ordered, we could get 4 8# jugs and 1 sleeve of 209's. We were told that a hazmat pkg could not max out at 70 - whether that is completely true or not, I do not know as there have been some recent changes

be grateful you have that much. I truly have no idea where all the powder went, but it's sure enough all gone. (except for some of the super fast and super slow powders) I was ok for powder, then I bought a 30/30 didn't have anything quite the right speed, and now can't load the blasted thing because I can't find powder. stupid shortages.........

Finding powder is a crap shoot.
My Cabela's had all manner of CCI, Winchester & Remington primers today.
But powder? fuggetaboudit

I did find 1 lb canisters of Tite Group, Lil Gun & Bullseye

But no 231, Trail Boss, Universal, HP-38, Red Dot, Green Dot, etc, etc...

Hondo;

Third Generation reloading has 389 single pound containers of HP-38 in stock for $16.99. Obviously, it's a bit more to buy single pound containers instead of 8 lb jugs, but considering all the craziness, it's probably worth it.

While a lot of the more common powders are sold out, similar, less popular powders are not. So while it's impossible to find H110/296, 2400, etc; Lil'gun, HS-6 and Longshot are available at Third Generation.

If you're adventurous, Pat's Reloading has WC-814 for sale. There's not much out there on the web, but it looks like it's a medium burning pistol powder, somewhere between 231 and Unique. They have it in 7 lb for $89.99. You'd have to work up loads, but the price is right.

3rd Generation has 1 and 8 lb containers of H110 for $18.99/$138.99 - http://store.thirdgenerationshootingsupply.com/browse.cfm/2,3639.html

Winchester 296 1 lb/$18.99, 4 lbs/$71.99, 8 lbs/$140.99 - http://store.thirdgenerationshootingsupply.com/browse.cfm/2,3685.html
Thanks for that! While I REALLY didn't want to spend the money on 8lbs of powder, it's been near impossible to find H110 so I bit the bullet (so to speak) and ordered 8lbs of H110 from this place. $175 with shipping and hazmat....so about $22 a pound, which isn't terrible......especially considering the scarcity of it. I was lucky enough to find a local seller with 8lbs of W231 last month and scopped that up. So for the amount of shooting that I do, I'm completely SET on powder now.

Last time I ordered through PV, it was 50 lbs or powder under one HazMat. Don't know the breakdown with Powder and Primers because those are separate orders for me. Heard all kinds of horror stories and rumors that you couldn't order more than 32 lbs at a time. Glad I don't buy into the rumor mills and listen to the uninformed getting information from their Best friends, brother in law twice removed.

Peter I also have been using up my 2 year cushion/stash slowly and feel it is time to put in a major order soon. I was thinking of even doing it in two or three orders and paying the larger price due to more haz-mat fees this time anyway. This whole shortage thing is just stoooopid if you ask me.:banghead:

Finding powder is a crap shoot.

Indeed.

On a hunch I checked out Gamaliel for some Herco and they were out of singletons and baby kegs; however, they had eight-pounders in stock which made my day since I was getting low-ish on it. Thought of buying two but decided on only one this time around... and I am STILL looking for Winchester Tactical Field :)

Interesting. I just checked powder valley and it is still pretty tapped out. I know my local dealers have 1 lbs in stock but the bigger containers are missing.

I guess I will continue loading with my backlog of powders and then wait a few more months. Maybe the situation will improve in say November.

If you seriously had in mind to buy all that in one shipment, that was a dream, and won't happen. More realistic is paying a HAZMAT for each powder, as you find them.

For what its worth, it was just noted over on the "where are the reloading supplies" thread that PV just received a ton of powders and will be announcing them after the holiday. So stay tuned!

I am not in a rush to buy. I am just thinking about things.

I pulled out my powder stash and while thin I am only completely out of 2400 and AA7. I found another can of blue dot and 2 more 296's so I could complete my reloading of 357 Magnum.

I figure I will hit the local shops for one pounders for a few months and start watching Powder Valley. I can always hit them for 70 lbs like I normally do on powder and primers.

By the way I cracked open another sleeve of 5000 CCI-550's. I noted I have 3 more sleeves of 500's and 2 sleeves of 300's still to open. Nice not to have to sweat primers for a few more months.

Ran out of A2230 yesterday, figured I would stop by the local Scheels and see if they got any.

Ended up coming home with 2 pounds of varget and 2 pounds of benchmark.

Always carry a list and be ready to buy if you find it.

I've got about four pounds of W231, two pounds of HP38, three pounds of H335, two pounds of 296 and maby three of IMR 4895...so in my mind I'm running low...tried some longshot under 115 gr extream 9mm this last week...needless to say not happy about having to work new loads.

Happy dance time......

I went to the local dealers here in Houston. While I was not able to pick up the quantity I wanted, I was successful in getting plenty of powder. I was surprised at how reasonable it was for off the shelf stuff. Roughly $18 a pound which is not too bad.

I even found 4227 and SR4756.

So the powder is out there. It just took a bit of driving during lunch hour to load up with enough to last another 6 months or so. I really expected it to be a lot harder based upon your comments. I only had to hit 3 stores.

As an FYI I bought
SR4756 (cleared out the store)
IMR4227 (cleared out the store)
Unique
Bullseye
2400 (cleared out the store)
Power Pistol
Red Dot
Clays
800x
Green Dot
WST
Autocomp
231

I was not able to find
Claydot
HS-6
HS-7
Herco
PB

Maybe tomorrow as I am going to hit one more store.

This should last me another 6 months and then I can go to Powder Valley and really lay in some supplies with my shooting buddies.
