I have the 3913..it's a keeper..and a 4516, but I haven't seen the 4513..is it a lighter model than the 16? it appears to be the same size in the pic..The 4516 is a little heavy...But it is also a keeper.

One exception to this is the 6906 that has a stainless slide on an aluminum alloy frame.

6906 whould indicate a 9mm/standard model/stainless frame and slide.
If S&W nomenclature had been followed it should have ben called a 6903.

Of course this difference is because the 6900 series evolved fron the older 3 digit system. i.e. 469/669 which were both alloy framed.

To further confuse the number system the 6904 could just as well have been designated the 5914.

Hey, I know I am comming into this tread late and not meaning to throw a wrench into things - but how about an HKP7 either an M8 or PSP (PSP preferred)?

Small, flat, good SA trigger, quality piece.

I also like the 239 in 40/357.

Mine is the pre-LS model that became the LS. I inherited it and it is a fine piece. The only reason I don't use it as a carry piece is that it's manual of arms is so different from my other carry autos. I truly hate frame mounted safeties but mainly just because they are “different†and I am not forced to use them. FYI it has a magazine disconnect but it is easy to disable. If I could only turn the safety into a pure decocker, it would be perfect.

This can be done. And rather easily I might add. If you have a more recent 3913, all you have to do is get the part from S&W. The old 3913s have to be sent back to S&W where the slide has to be slightly milled in the safety area for the new part. S&W can do it for you, just contact them and tell them what you want. Sorry, I don't have a pic of what to look for, I'll see if I can find one somewhere. My digital camera is on the fritz and I can't afford the replacement right now.

Hey SouthPaw, who do I need to contact at S&W to do the decocker mods? I have honestly considered ditching my 3913 TSW because it's safety was so different from the other pistols that I normally shoot. If I accidentally decock a pistol in a high stress situation, that would not be nearly as bad as putting it on safe (I normally shoot 1911's).

tiberius, it's interesting that the feature which you dislike is a feature that I feel the exact opposite about. Different strokes for different strokes. :D

bernie, is your 3913TSW pre-rail? If so, give me a heads up whenever you decide to part with it. Depending on my financial situation at the time, I might be willing to take it off your hands.

Its just what you're used to. I "grew up" on Colt's so DOWN means ready to fire for me. There's nothing inherently wrong with the Walther style safety…esp. for kids who “grew up†on the Beretta.

At 43 I don't FEEL like a kid any more. Sometimes I wish I still was but anyway, you are correct -- Beretta's and S&W's are my favorites. I own a few 1911's and carry them from time to time but always go back to the S&W's and the Beretta's.
