I just came into possession of a used, pre-ban S&W 3913. The manual was missing and I'm trying to figure out how to release the slide so that I can field strip and clean it! Can someone help me on this? Thanks!

... line up the notch on the slide with the front of the slide release lever and hold in place. At the same time, push metal tab on other side. When you can no longer push from the right side, continue pulling release leverl out from left side. Once lever is out, pull slide forward and off the frame. The rest is pretty much like any other pistol.

Oh, be sure the gun is unloaded.

I have not handled a S&W auto for some years, but when reassembling the gun, you must depress a couple of small levers (one, IIRC, is for the magazine safety) that stick up out of the frame just ahead of the magazine well before the slide will go back on.

- What ban?

- Yea, mag safety and firing in block. They can be a devil to press down sometimes.

They most certainly can be tiberius. I have lost track of the amount of S&W autos I have seen with the tell tale scratches on the back of the slide.
:p
Best trick I ever found was to put my thumb up and over the back strap and push down with the tip of my nail while pulling the slide back .

Thanks, all, for the follow-up info. Yes, I discovered those pesky levers when I reassembled the pistol! Ron, I did go to their website but they don't list a manual for a 3913 or that series. I e-mailed them and asked for one. Tiberius, I said "pre-ban" in case their were members who are still boycotting S&W. I have several S&W pistols and revolvers but all were made before the "troubles" began. :D

Any third generation TDA manual will do just fine for this gun (5906, 4006, 4506, etc.). Disassembly is common to all. My 3913TSW (identical to Alan Fud's photo above) is among my favorite pistols. It was my second S&W 3rd generation (I have 6 now). Enjoy.

Another 3913 fan. The CZ 85 and some other pistols take down in similar fashion. SIGs are easiest.

VG, how does your CS9 "feel" when compared to your 3913? I handled a few of them and they just didn't "feel" right to me which is why I never purchased one. I purchased more 3913's instead ...

I had the same question I inherited my 3913 from deceased family member and couldnt figure out how to take it a part either
