I was looking at a stainless S&W 645 today in a shop. Comes with a worn but very serviceable holster, and four eight round mags. The gun appears to be in very good shape. Price is $425, but after tax and california fees, probably 500 or so out the door. Does this sound like a good deal?

CDNN had brand new S&W 3rd generation TSW guns for about $530. They also had the 4566 (not TSW) in excellent to like new condition for $390. I think they are a better deal. The 645 hasn't been made in 20 years and it is possible that parts are not available.

The S&W 645 accepts all of the 3rd generation internal parts made for the S&W 4506. Ed Brown at one time made several custom parts for the 645 and 4506.The 4506 was S&W's upgrade of the 645, both which achieved sucess in police departments looking for a DA .45ACP back in the late 1980's and early '90's. Both are excellent and reliable full size pistols that can be customized to shoot with incredible accuracy. All S&W 645 pistols accept 4506 magazines. Overall there were 4 generations of magazines spanning the production of both models.

I have had two 645's, and they were hands down, the most reliable, and accurate .45s that I could have asked for.
