S&W and Ruger give up on selling semis in California

Just what the California lawmakers wanted. Yay say they.

We have to cut into the gunrunning for the repressive government agencies and bodyguards of the rich and famous to make a difference. Are there more honorable gun companies like Barrett?

does the microstamping apply to guns going to the police as well? it will only mean something if glock stops selling there as well

You cannot get a Gen4 there now. When/If they faze out Gen3's that will be it for the state.. At least for the citizens.

Are Ruger and Smith & Wesson giving up or standing up?

guess that remains to be seen... If they continue to sell to LEO then they turned their backs on the average Joe.

yeah ive been wondering what the intent by them is. it may very well be a business idea but it may also be something about them not willing to meet insane demands out of principal.

heres my conspiracy theory; smith and wesson and ruger are trying to piss of the citizens in komifornia. when more and more gun companies stop selling to CA more and more people will get pissed and either move or vote people out.

hopefully californians will vote them out and rid themselves of these stupid laws.

EXACTLY. IF all manufacturers stopped sales to LEOs etc in these marxist states, this would all be over, in a NY second

Hopefully for most gunmakers it doesn't mean...if we are going to sell to California, then we are going to have to make all of our firing pins contain microstamping.

Also good news to those who hate all the safety features on Rugers...maybe if they stop selling to California, they will drop some of the safety features.

that is the requirement.

Ummm, that is kinda exactly what it means ... for handguns anyway.

And I do believe that NY is right behind ...

And there's the rub: Not selling to citizens puts them in the national spotlight, selling to LEO's "behind their back" will get out and many gun buyers will cut them off to protest.

It's a calculated risk. Will the make enough on a PD contract to cover the lost sales from those they alienate?

The larger makers will continue to sell to PD's - Colt, FN, SIG, Glock, etc. I fully expect them to be called out on it, but the reality is money talks. That brings up the real question:

Since when are the Police Constitutionally exempt from abiding by the law?

Oh, sure, we say they can and trot out reasons, but really, we give them a pass. We don't for ourselves. It's our department, our laws, and the results are entirely ours. Oh, it can't be changed? Is Colorado selling marijuana openly? Saying it can't be changed is defeatist and places you in their camp as a supporter.

It's been said be either hot or cold, but lukewarm should be spit out for what it is. We need to look at the situation and correct the real issue, the Police don't have to obey the law.

Is that right?

Or better yet, turn about is fair play. Shouldn't the officer's gun be microstamped to help subsequent invest at a shooting scene? Haven't officers been found in an illegal shoot scenario 'after the fact' before? Wouldn't this help clear other officers in vicinity who did/ did not fire at potential bad shoot after said invest??

From the article:

Smith & Wesson President and CEO James Debney said, “As our products fall off the roster due to California’s interpretation of the Unsafe Handgun Act, we will continue to work with the NRA and the NSSF to oppose this poorly conceived law which mandates the unproven and unreliable concept of microstamping and makes it impossible for Californians to have access to the best products with the latest innovations.”

(I added the underline)

It appears to be strategic. The angle will probably be that.......

'By requiring this unrealistic micro stamping the Govt is denying the citizens from future acquiring "an entire class of firearms".

Further more, by allowing the sale of current handguns already on the Roaster and not allowing upgrades to the products with out submitting for approval with the micro stamping technology, the Govt is forcing to citizens, who want to exercise their 2A Rights, to buy an out dated LESS safe product' of "an entire class of firearms" that is the "most popular class of firearms used for HD/SD". (paraphrasing SCOTUS)

This strategy will also parallel the challenge the entire CA Roaster itself which is already in motion as well.

Ruger better put out a similar statement or it could get ugly.

CA's unsafe handgun laws, which created the Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale, are a prime example of what happens when gun owners do not stand united and only look out for their own special interest.

When the legislation was being decided upon, several "pro-gun" groups switched from opposing it to supporting it once they were able to obtain exemptions for their groups.

In the end, the law enforcement unions and cowboy action shooters screwed everyone else in CA.

I concur with danez71's post regarding the possible legal arguments that grow from this. This may turn out to be a good thing, in the long run, for gun owners in CA.

It is nice to know that there will never be any more "gun violence" in CA.
