"But using this argument gives a government that does not recognize morality grounds to call the whole Bill of Rights null and void."

Fixed it for you. Faith is ultimately where many morals come from, since many serve no 'utilitarian' purpose for the betterment of mankind. An amoral government is free to work its will on any and all, so long as sufficient betterment for the part that matters can be argued. The concept that the individual has value is not part of utilitarian theory, as the greater portion of the group (or the part that matters) always takes precedence. An individual's claim to personal worth comes from themselves, and often as a product of their faith.

We get hung up on specific details of faith and religion and forget that the actual guiding principle of our government was that individuals are valuable and deserve to be shielded from ruthless utilitarian tyrants. The king was supposedly ordained by God to rule in the best interest of his subjects, after all, and rest assured he argued just that as he ordered Hessian mercenaries to annihilate the Colonial militia.

I disagree that "faith is where morals come in". It's more like "faith promises rewards for moral behavior and threatens dire consequences for immoral behavior", though Christianity has watered down the consequences.

My faith slowly eroded over most of my adult life. I'm agnostic now but am very moral. I don't hurt anyone or anything and am more honest and less greedy than anyone else I know. I've known far too many folks who espouse their deep religious beliefs and are extremely greedy, dishonest, arrogant and hateful. Faith (religion) has nothing to do with true internal morality.

Too bad about California's loss.

Step one is to mandate micro-stamping, step two is everything that doesn't micro-stamp is illegal. That's the way New Jersey is going now.

Glock had already joined this fight against microstamping (and mag disconnect).

I have not seen/heard about this.

California has in essence reversed the Supreme Court’s “common use” test and prohibited the sale and possession of those pistols that are commonly used by “lawabiding citizens for lawful purposes,” Heller, 554 U.S. at 625, 627, and allowed only the sale of those pistols that are not in common use and, in fact, are not even commercially available. The absence of a magazine disconnect mechanism and microstamping technology in the Gen4 GLOCK pistols does not render them the type of “dangerous and unusual weapons” that the government may prohibit, id. at 627, because they are functionally identical to the earlier grandfathered versions of the GLOCK pistols that also lack those features.

In fact, the largest actual effect from the expanding list of novel technological requirements for new models of guns is to prevent California consumers from being able to obtain the new models of handguns, such as GLOCK’s Gen4 pistols, that incorporate the latest improvements. It makes absolutely no sense to force consumers to purchase older model handguns that lack the same features that the government is relying on to prohibit the sale of newer model handguns. Justifying such a scheme in the name of consumer safety or crime fighting is nonsensical, or simply disingenuous... Indeed, the very absurdity of the scheme suggests that the actual objective of the challenged roster requirements is not safety, but to create increasingly more problematic and expensive hurdles to the sale of handguns in order to make the process more difficult and thereby deter the sale and purchase of new handguns in California, an objective that cannot be squared with the Second Amendment.

Vote.

Cut out all the BS and semantics. Only an elected official currently in office has any say over your life / rights.

Register to vote and send emails and place phone calls to your sheriff, mayor, congressman, senator, and governor. Squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Vote.

That's the only voice politicians are beholden to.

Our fine republican governor signed a bill into law just yesterday making it easier for a citizen to get a CWP in SC. We have weapon manufacturers in state. Guns aren't going anywhere here because we don't vote people into office who infringe upon our rights.

If you are a member of the NRA, email and ask what they are doing to help with this fight. Ask what you can do to help. If you aren't a member - join.

Ultimately, your vote is your voice.

Rebel Soul - let's not forget that taking new shooters to the range is very important too as it increases our numbers or at the least helps decrease the number of people 'in the dark' or fence sitters. But I certainly agree with you voting and contributing to the NRA and local grassroots organizations is critical.

is the micro-stamping law applied only to newly introduced guns?

if so - Glock could keep selling their Gen3's in CA forever ...

If they decide to keep making them forever. It costs extra money to keep production going on an outdated line of guns, though, when it's for a limited market.

IMO people foolishly get tangled up in the details. Its like after SH when some were thinking it was a great idea to put more cops in schools & other public places. In fact, the odds of being a victim of such an attack are less than being hit by lightning.
All the Kali proposals including their stupid 'approved gun list' is about restricting and eventually taking away your 2A rights. Its not about the 'reasons' they give you based on 'safety', 'crime', etc. They want the American people completely disarmed.
Its good that Ruger & S&W won't sell in Kali. Maybe enough of their people will do whats needed to keep their rights, or move out of that place.
