What would you think the going rate is for a S&W Model 10 4" HB? I would like to get a fair idea before I bargain with the gun shop here.
Thank you.
Jake

Walkalong is close. A lot depends on condition. I have three S&W mod 10s. Two with 4" LB and one with 2" HB. Not a finer .38 special made. Even today...

Look them up on www.gunbroker.com and compare condition and price.

Another consideration - and this from a guy whose first .38 was a 2" 10 - look at 64's. They are the Model 10 in SS. Much easier maintenance - and slight scratches/holster wear are easily fixed. A great 'plus' - almost all are +P rated. J&G Sales, and others, have security guard trade-in's. I bought a new/unissued 4" 64-8 made in '05 back in 5/08 for $309 from my local pusher. He has a new older 64, more desirable to some, in excellent condition now for $350. Either a 10 or a 64 will be a keeper - and a constant range-friend, as well as a great 'house gun'. Mine are stoked with Remington R38S12's, +P 158gr LHPSWC's, as I type this.

I'd say around these parts, $300 in very good used condition would be about right.

$250.00-300 in eastern Washington/northern Idaho. I've gone to two different dealers just a few miles apart and they were $100.00 apart in price.

Thank you all for replying to my fair price question, I'm definitely wiser now so I can negotiate a sale.
Merry Christmas

I bought a Corrections dept. trade in a couple of months ago for just $175.00

Finish is a bit rough showing light scratches and bluing wear at the muzzle and cylinder, but it's highly accurate and decently tight.

I wouldn't go higher than $250 if there is much more than slight wear showing. These things pop up for similar prices and lower pretty often. Keep and eye on S&W Forum classifieds. That's where I found mine.

Called around to various gun dealers this afternoon...no luck on any S&W model 10's for sale. Newer models range from $400 up to $750 including a .357 and a S&W .45 revolver.

I'm starting to think my area is retail high. I'll keep looking as time is on my side.

I paid $219 for my 10-8 HB 4" like new.

Now they are in the $260-$280 range for the armored-car-company trade-ins they have on the shelf. Anything in the $200-$300 range is a fair price based on condition. These are not exactly uncommon, and that's a good thing.
