how accurate are they?i've herd good things about them...but it seems every pistol i've ever owned that had fixed sights didn't hit where i aimed it
(glock being the worst springfield XD sencond)i got to where i won't buy a pistol unless its a 1911 with adjustable sights but i'm thinking of giving the MP a go...any ifno would help

Just purchased one myself. Have yet to shoot it, however I have faith that it will be as accurate as I expect.

The range gun fired a little low (rental) but that could be because of any number of reasons. Left and right is easy to fix, only have to worry about up and down.

cskelly low is what bothers me every pistol i've bought with fixed sights shoots bad low and that just pisses me off lol

Shooting low can be corrected by shooting a heavier bullet if it's reasonable.
My M&P shot slightly to the left when I got it, about 3" at 25 yards. I adjusted the rear sight a couple weeks ago.
They are novaks and made of steel so I wasn't at all worried about whacking them with a brass punch.
Anyhow, first I had to use a torch on the set screw for a few seconds to break the loc-tite loose.
Then it took some pretty solid whacks to move the rear sight. Even if you somehow lost the screw the sights would probably still be solidly in there.

As for elevation, I wouldn't be too worried about it.
First, they're likely to be dead on to begin with.
Next, The sights are dovetailed in. You get one that shoots low, call S&W and complain, send it back, and it should come back fixed with the correct height front sight installed.
It sucks but it's a small issue to fix and not at all related to reliability. IIRC, they are one of the companies that will pay return shipping.

I did a lot of research on them and before I bought one. My friend who works at my favorite shop has two. S&W was doing a promo on them for awhile where if they sold like 300 guns they got a free one.
Consequently, they were selling a lot, he now has two of them. This guy could have sold them back to S&W but he kept them and carries one now. His wife has the other one. I asked him about them - he and the other guys at his store have sold thousands with only two returned - one because of faulty handloads. The competing gun store in town (where I bought mine b/c I wanted one without the mag disconnect) has sold even more, sells out of them almost as fast as they get them, and has yet to have any complaints.
I finally gave in after finding nothing bad written anywhere about them and I'm not at all disappointed. After a couple hundred more rounds and a decent Kydex holster mine will become a three season primary CCW.
After this one gets 1K through w/o issues I'm going to be wanting a second one.

I've only had my M&P .40 S&W out a few times, but I've found it to be very accurate. I recall the very fist round I fired from it at 25 ft went right through the bullseye.

my m&p 45 seems to get more accurate every time i take it out. i think its mainly because the trigger is getting better. i now have about 800rds through it and i can tell the diffrence in the trigger then when i first got it

I did want to point out one concern I had when I purchased:

Failure to Feed (FTF). Hollow Points have had a mixed review in M&P's. They tend to not feed well when the gun in new. S&W has been pretty good about it and will send out a shipping label for you to return the gun with if there is an issue.

When I purchased mine, I made SURE the feed ramp was smooth as can be. More info can be found on www.mp-pistol.com

what kind of accu. are we talking about
broad side of a barn or fist sized groups

you say every pistol youve owned w/ fixed sights ,maybe your grip is malfutioning and adjustiable sights are your crutch.
No pun intended.

Kinda of curious too. The Glocks and the XDs that I have shot have all been accurate. Don't necessarily care for the grip on the Glocks is the only reason I don't own any, but slow fire...pretty darn accurate.

I picked up a .40 a few months ago, and although I haven't shot it much, I was impressed that it would run with 130pf loads, right out of the box. In the past, if I wanted to run "minor" loads in my SIGs, or Glocks, I've had to put in a lighter recoil spring.
Although it isn't as accurate as any of my 1911's, it seems to put them where the sights are aligned. If I remember correctly, at 25 yards it shot about 3" groups.

I'd say fist size. If I can shoot a first shot bullseye and keep most shots in the ten ring, I'd be interested to see what someone with some actual ability can do with it.

It's as accurate as most of the other service/combat pistols out there. Of course, mechanical accuracy and accuracy in a particular shooter's hands are two different things. I haven't shot bullseye with one yet, but I did take my dad's M&P 9mm and M&P Compact 9mm for a whirl on some steel poppers. They were okay and accuracy was fine, but nothing really stood out about the guns for me. I liked them better than the G17 and G19, which I guess would be the closest things I could compare them to. I'd like to shoot the XD's for comparison. I guess if I were in the market for a new pistol right now, my money would go either towards another H&K, a Beretta PX4, or a SiG P220.

i can flat eat a bullseye up with my 1911 i'm not going to change my grip

I shoot a 1911 better than any other type of pistol. When I first got my M&P, I was consistently shooting low and left. Since I was accustomed to the 1911's light, short trigger, I was both pulling the M&P's heavier trigger off center and tightening my grip toward the end of the trigger pull. I had to leave my 1911s at home and use the M&P exclusively for a while to work out a satisfactory trigger pull.

For combat shooting, the M&P is easily as accurate as a 1911, but the 1911 wins for bullseye shooting.

Here is how I discovered the M&P. I use to go to my local range and rent the Springfield XD .40 every time. I love it, one day the gun was busted so instead the RSO suggested I try the M&P .40, I took it out and shot better than I ever have. Its accuracy is what sold me on it. I now have one and want another in .45acp
