Gave in and got my self a s&w sigma. Any opinions on this? Experiences? etc. Is it safe to dry fire this gun? How durable is it?

the old ones had a horrible trigger if they overcame that with the new ones than you will be good to go. they shoot pretty good and i never experienced any malfunctions at all. congrats on the new gun, and please tell us how it does for you, as all I have experience with were the old ones.

I had one and sold it right away for a Glock. Not to rain on your choice or anything but the trigger was really horrible for me. The gun itself was a 100% reliable it was just i could not hit a thing at all with it. I got a glock 22 and have not regreted it a bit. To answer your question about the dryu firing it. I would go out and do about 200 dry fires hoping to get the trigger softer and it never effected it.

I like mine (SW9VE). The trigger pull is long and hard (can't believe I said that... sigh) just as people say. But I took it as a challenge when someone remarked, "If you can master trigger control on a Sigma, you can shoot anything."

If I was doing it all over, I'd look harder at the M&P. I fired one at the range, and it's really sweet. But I'm pretty happy with me Sigma.

I saw someone else this week on another forum go buy one, with no knowledge of guns, and then ask about it.

Unfortunately, I see this a lot - that is how new shooters end up with this gun. Then, a few weeks later - you see a thread by them asking how to lighten the trigger pull. That's the way it is. And, because of the price point, and the name "S&W", they sell a lot of these to people who will later regret the purchase.

I'm told the trigger pull can be improved by a knowledgeable smith with little effort. My wife is happy with the trigger as is.

A shooter said he bought his at Gander Mountain on sale and had the GM gunsmith shop do a trigger job on it. I did not fire it.

Who got one for his wife, now I have my SP 101 .22LR back.

The Sigma does have along trigger pull. I assume it is part of the safety system on the pistol as their is no maual safety button.

My 9mm shoots fine. I am very used to the trigger and it is not a concern for me. It seems to me that the Sigma gets a bad reputation from those that borrow from the guy in the next lane at the range and are not able to get used to it in one mag load of ammo.

The thing can be disassembled and reassembled in seconds. It is simple to clean and maintain.

I think you made an excellent choice.

i bought the sw9ve in march, and i'm happy with it. if you shoot with it regularly, the trigger will smooth out. it was a choice between an xd or glock 19, and i went with the sigma. i'll probably end up getting the m&p, though.

i bought a newer s&w sigma 9mm. the trigger pull is much better after 600 rounds through it. i like the gun. my friend laughed at my "plastic gun". he has a ruger p89dc, his "brick".

we sat on the front porch of the camp shooting beer cans. he didn't do any better than i. we rarely missed the little cans. even after we went through a case.

i never had a problem with brass wwb ammo. the sigma will jam a little on steel or aluminum cases. but in my experience the sigma is the easiest auto to unjam(i only shot sigma and ruger). i just pull the slide back a little and it works great.

the few jams i had with ruger 9mms where show stoppers. those guns lock up bad. real bad.

The Sigma is a gun with a stigma that it hasn't been able to get away from. They are really good guns that are very reliable, but got a bad rep early on. I have even had some of the early ones and had no trouble with any. Some folks did have trouble with some of the early ones though. I prefer the trigger over the Glock or XD for carry, but not for target shooting. Mine have been 100% reliable. Can't get better than that. Not to beat a dead horse, but the trigger is very long.

The trigger is pretty stiff when new but will
wear in,a little lube in the right places helps
too.If you take off the slide and pull the
trigger half way thru it's travel you'll see
where to apply some gun grease.

I like my Sigma. I have a Glock 23 and a Sig 229 too, so it's not like I don't have anything to compare it to. The trigger pull is stiff- no worse than a revolver in double action mode. The Sigma is simple, reliable and backed by S&W outstanding warranty and customer service. It is a bargain at $300.

Would I recommend it as a first gun for a new shooter? Yes, with the reminder that the trigger pull is stiff and requires more effort from the shooter to exercise good trigger control. If you can afford more than $300, the new shooter may want to opt for a gun with a lighter trigger. But I think anyone would be well served with a Sigma.

Well, I think it has its place for someone who needs a gun and doesn't shoot it tons at the range. If U want a gun to have fun with and see how well U can hit the center bullseye each and every time (I do with with my Walther P99) - then this trigger isn't really conducive to that, I think.

And, I think it can cause a lot of newbies a headache at the range when they just can't seem to shoot it as well as they would like - because of the trigger.

The Sigma fills a niche. Its not a range toy, its more of a self defense weapon. I actually brought the Sigma for SD purposes because I fell the trigger was an asset in tense situations. Some will say just keep your finger off the trigger, and you won't have to worry about it. I have seen too many people who say that keep their finger on the trigger when they get stressed.

I like my sigma and do not want to bother the trigger. I also own a M&P9. I like them both and would not change either. Each gun has it's own merits

I came very close to buying a Sigma. It fit my hand quite well but the lack of a manual safety turned the wife off. Ended up with a Taurus 24/7 instead. I bought a Glock a few months later. :)

I would have no problem recommending the Sigma to a new shooter, or to someone who needs a SHTF gun or trunk gun.

sigma

They have some changes like the grip is a little thicker, the triger smoother, the finish a more rust risistant. Shooting is great, i bout one last week.:):):)
