I have a 327 Night Guard. Mine was made in 2012 with the 2 1/2” barrel. It is probably my favorite revolver, but I only can find one photo of it right now. I will have to remedy that. And this one is a poor photo at that.
After I bought this one I had the weirdest issue. It would hit true to aim for 6 out of 8 rounds but 2 were fliers to the right, sometimes 4-5 inches to the right at 10-15 yards. At first I thought it was a cylinder issue but testing proved I didn’t have a couple of defective chambers. It turned out the crown was cut funny. (I know I had photos of this but cannot find them) It appeared as if someone just didn’t finish the crown properly and two of the grooves had metal burs at the crown.
I sent the gun back to S&W. They told me that they could find nothing wrong with the barrel, but it came back recrowned.
Fair enough, that’s what I wanted so I didn’t argue with them.
The revolver shoots great and I love it.
I especially like the fact that as big as it is, my 5’1” wife shoots this gun better and with more confidence than any of my other handguns, which is why it’s the bedroom gun.
When I sent it back to S&W I inquired about changing the barrel to a 5” barrel. They told me that my model gun was only made 1 year, 2012. And that the only barrel available was the 2 1/2”. The way the 2 piece barrel system is secured is unique only to guns made that year. That concerned me but the people I talked to assured me that even though they changed the way the barrels were mounted that it wasn’t done because there was a problem. One gentleman actually said if anything it was a better system and the system was changed to save money and time.
Regardless, I am actually glad I didn’t have the option to change the barrel. I love this revolver. Besides, it gives me an excuse to buy a TRR8.
