I was field stripping my WASR-10 for the first time to familiarize myself with it, and I decided to remove the safety selector because I want to notch it to hold back the action. When I removed the safety lever, this strange little pin popped off that I can find no practical use for. I can't figure out where it goes or why it's there, no field stripping guide I can find references it, and Google searches for "WASR-10 stupid pin thingy" have proven fruitless.

Is this even necessary?

What you have there is one form of the pins / springs that hold either the hammer or trigger pins in place.

The safety lever pin goes through the loop, and the arm goes in a slot in the hammer or trigger pin to retain it.

You have to have it in place on the hammer or trigger pin groove, then insert the safety pin through the loop to hold it in place.

Thanks, I managed to solve the problem after tinkering for an hour or so, and then I found a Tapco retaining plate at MidwayUSA, and I ordered that to replace the buggering thing.

Thanks for the help, though.
