I just called Samco and tried to order some .303 ammo. I live in GA and want the ammo shipped to OR (for a shoot later this year). I placed the order and then they called me back 5 minutes later to tell me that it was against ATF policy to ship to an address other than the state where you reside.

So I call the ATF in DC and the agent tells me that there is no such ATF regulation.

I call Samco back and and relate this to the manager only he's not listening. He pointed me to his ammo statement which said that you have to reside in your state of residence for 90 days...nothing about shipping to a different address. When I repeatedly asked him what this was based on (company policy, ATF?) he said that the ATF had told them to do this for years. I gave him the name & number of the ATF agent that talked to me and he refused to call him.

It burns me that someone 'in the business' doesn't know the regulations and won't make any effort to correct their error.

Last time I do business with Samco...YMMV.

I don't like them either. Had the same thing happen with MidwayUSA. Called back about 5 minutes later and got a different CS operator, who didn't seem to care about the different address--it went off without a hitch.

Ordered 5K of 7.62x39 from Sportsmans Guide when I was at the Fl place. Ammo went on back order. Called them to change address to the NV place. No problems. Ammo go here about 6 mos. after initial order placed. Must be some retailers run under some house rules vice ATF regulations.

I agree and if they had said it was company policy that would've been the end of it. However, he kept telling me it was ATF policy and that's where we butted heads.

How is the stuff from Rguns? From the pic on the website it looked like a lot of the rounds had the green corrosion on them...is that what you received?

Please keep in mind that in the gun dealer world often "ATF policy" is code for "we are not getting off our lazy behinds and doing it."

Remember the motivation of those in the gun business is not to make money; it is to tell other people "NO!"

As always, you are free to use this universal truth in your signature.

I dunno. Most every place I've ordered ammo from wants a copy of my driver's license and will only ship to the address on the license.

Funny you should bring this up.

Samco Global once tried to get me to send them my license to place an order for 6.5x55 Swedish DUMMY ammo.

I tried to explain that DUMMY ammo is just pieces of metal, but there were apparently more dummies than the ones in the box I was trying to buy. I could have faxed my license but I didn't feel like rewarding their stupidity with a purchase.

Well...I knew I was in trouble when the woman on the phone asked if I had an 'ammo waiver' on file. I told the woman I had an 03 FFL on file with them and she said she'd still need an 'ammo waiver'. :scrutiny:

As I said before, if they had told me it was strictly a company policy, that'd be fine and their option to do business that way. But don't blame the ATF (did I actually just say that? :D ) for your own stupidity and lack of understanding of the regulations.

Thanks for the links on the other sources - will give Rguns a call tomorrow and hopefully their .303 won't be all green and crusty on the outside.

ammo purchases

I have ordered ammunition from sportsmans guide and cheaper than dirt online and have never been asked for any kind of ID, waivers, or anything, just my credit card number, I have ordered several thousand rounds of .223 and 7.62 at a time and no problems. Take your business where it is appreciated and leave the dummies alone. As an aside, some of them work for the airlines. i took my rifle to New Zealand, had the bolt out and a lock threaded thru the breech, and the counter lady said,"How do I know it isn't loaded?"
