Savage 64G .22LR feed problems, shaved bullets

I recently purchased a used Savage .22LR automatic and I am having bullet feed problems. I thought maybe the magazine that came with the rifle was the culprit but was only part of the total situation. I purchased 3 more magazines, thinking that would solve the dilemma, and the problem still exists.

I noticed when the .22LR cartridge was loaded from the magazine into the chamber by the bolt, the front of the bullet got mashed and/or shaved. So I filed and polished the feed ramp in the magazines, thus solving the mashing of the front of the bullet. Now the bullet feeds properly into the ejection port, but is still being shaved on the bottom edge when the cartridge is being introduced into the chamber by the edge of the chamber, all because the feed ramp of the magazine housing assembly is not tall enough by 1/16" to 3/32" to reach the chamber and guide the cartridge into the chamber properly.

Is there a solution to this situation? Is this a factory flaw that needs to be addressed by the manufacturer? Is the magazine housing assembly the wrong part?

It seems that I may have the new model for 2013, the serial number starts with '13'. I researched the current catalog for my rifle; there is not one identical to mine, the one in the catalog closest is the 64G but mine does not contain a set of iron sights nor is the wood stock checkered.

If you press up on the bottom of the magazine while it's feeding, will it feed smoothly then?

The magazine is not the problem anymore. The magazine housing assembly that holds the magazine has a feed ramp that leads to the chamber located between the feed ramp of the magazine and the chamber; is too low to insure the bullet feed into the chamber properly.

To answer your question, no, that will not work, if the magazine is pushed any farther up into the ejection port, the bolt will not slide forward.
