Scarcity of ammo

Check grafs and Midway for components. They are just about out of the large pistol primer business. some magnum types are still in stock and some supplies of small pistol primers remain.Midway no longer advertises percussion caps at all and it appears that CCI is the only domestic manufacturer that still makes them.

Most of us started hoarding back before a certain political movement scored in the last election and by the time they score again in the next election, it will be too late for the usual run on guns and ammunition. What with the ascendency of china, extended wars and political developments, it appears that the days of high volume casual shooting are just about over.

Dunno about Mil-Spec oveall but I used to find 9mm Makarov easily (and cheap) so I bought a CZ-82 and went to the local gun shops.

Had to go to three stores before I found any
It was "winchester metric"
It cost me $17.50/50 rounds!
They only had three boxes.

Did Dr. Peter just call all of us liars? Where does he live? Let's go there and buy up the ammo.

Never called you guys liars, I just feel that a lot of this will come to pass thanks to hype. I live in California, not exactly the mecca of 2nd Amendment rights.

Dr Peter will be one of those people that wake up one day and can not find much ammo.

He will be on here posting 'WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL OF THE AMMO?"

If ammo is cheap and plentiful you should buy it and resale it for a nice profit.

Maybe it will, but I won't be worrying about it. I have enough currently to run it through the firearms that I want to without killing myself financially and keeping pace with how often I go to the range.

The WOT has little to do with the jumps in ammunition prices that I have read, considering that Ammunition Systems Group operating out of the Lake City plant and Radford Army Munition Plant has enough (or almost enough) capacity to supply our entire army in Iraq. The Lake City plant alone can make 1.5 Billion rounds of ammunition, 83% of the entire amount of rounds used by the U.S. Army. I've also read that ATK is also expanding their size to be capable of even producing more rounds then what they currently can. The only downside I can see is that ATK is in charge of Federal, CCI, Speer, and Outers.

That can lead to a squeeze on .223 (or specifically military cartridges), but this is not the great depression like you guys are making it out to be. Has anyone stopped to think that maybe this whole "BUY NOW AMMUNITION IS GOING BYE-BYE" has just a wee little bit to do with it? It seems like a lot of buying patterns have changed (that is, gone way way up) since there has been a "shortage", driving up prices even further. "Gotta buy now, it's going to be gone tomorrow!" - the same crap peddled by the guy who goes around the country at the Crossroads show selling body armor. I imagine that when the troops are brought home (a distinct possibility with who is running for office), there will be a huge 5.56/.223 surplus and you guys will be kicking yourself in the nuts for getting gouged.

As far as flipping ammunition for a profit, I refuse to do it. I have my firearm hobby for fun and the preservation of my rights, not to make a killing. That of course buys into my whole thinking that a lot of this is "BUY NOW" hype that is driving the prices up and the supply down - I'll tell you where all the .223 and .308 went, into the garages of THR posters.

That being said, China and India probably have a lot more to due with the price jump in ammunition than the WOT has thanks to the cost of raw materials. You can thank your government for the ****ty trade agreements on that one.

LOL... I don't know what you're talking about... what garage ;)

Do you know that the good'ol USA buys 5.56mm from Israel... pays shipping on it to the states and we use it for training... then we manufacture our own Lake City stuff and ship it all the way over to Iraq?

Cause you can't kill Muzzlems with Jew bullets.

Dr. Peter, Winchester is under contract to Lake City manufacturing their 5.56 and 7.62 brass. Lake City does not have the capicity to supply US forces. My son who just returned from Iraq used Kuwait ammo for practice and H&K magazines. Loaded up the issue stuf for duty. With the tearing down of the military infrastructure by some past Administrations, supply cannot keep up with demand. If it coild, we would be buying Wolf .223 for $100/1000, not the current average of $249/1000.

Also, now is not the time to buy. That as about a year or two ago. My supplier of the .223 I use in matches currently offers reloaded .223 for $375/1000. I am nearly finished with the 1000 @ $125 case I bought 3 years ago, and will next move to the 1000 @ $139 I bought 2 years ago. I am not shopping for ammo now. I will sit tight and wait for prices to decline (which is starting to occure).

the walmart i shop at(or any other in town) can't seem to keep enough .223 remington 55gr in stock, i got lucky last week and walked up as the clerk was stocking three 200 round cases....i bought all three...should last a couple of weeks...definately going to start reloading
