I am building a precision AR with a Rock River stainless bull-barreled 20" upper, and with a Magpul Precision adjustable stock.

Topping it with a Super Sniper 10x42.

That's the known stuff. The unknown is- how high should I make the rings to get a good cheek weld? The Magpul stock is adjustable enough if the scope was too high, but what little info I have found on the usual sites indicates that the problem for an AR is that low mounts are more of a problem. Obviously one cannot lower the stock.

So what ring height should I be looking for? I was going to buy Warne Tactical Ultra-high rings (model 617, 0.85" high, solid steel) but figured I should do a little checking first.

Thanks

My rig is a standard A2 lower with an A3 upper and DPMS free float tube running an Elite 3200 10x40 in Warne ultra-high rings directly on the upper receiver. I couldn't go lower. It would ruin my cheek weld and would possibly rub the FF tube. The only real problem I'm having now is with eye relief and having to crane my neck back to get a proper view.

If I had it to do over again, I would probably go with a Larue LT-104 and be done with it.

I have almost the exact setup as you so, only difference is the stock. I went with the Badger ordnance AR-15 rings, but I cannot comment on how they work as I haven't even handled any of the stuff yet. I'll know if its a good set up in about two and a half weeks when I get home.

I use the Leupold see-thru Weaver rings; they are solid and the correct height and only $20/set from WallyWorld. They seem to work well, and they've given me no issues on numerous rifles taken afield.
