Looking for a good scope for my Savage 10FCP 308. I have searched the forums and it seems the Leupolds, Burris, and Nikons seem to be very popular. I will mainly be doing paper punching (100-300yards), some target shooting, and hunting (maybe 4 times a year tops). Now I know there is no such thing as a do it all scope but what would you guys rec? What is a good magnafication? 3-9x40? TIA.

Do you want just a hunting scope, or, like me, prefer turrets and mil-dots?

Remember, to get the most out of the wonderful rifle, you're going to spend more on the glass than you did on the rifle itself.

Marketing, from the same people who told you to spend 2-3 months salary on an engagement ring. It's safe to say that 99.9% of the shooters won't do any better with an S&B than they do with a Bushnell 3200 or Nikon Buckmaster.

Buy the best you can afford

You might not shoot any worse with a cheap scope but in low light conditions like you find the majority of time in hunting the better scope will more than make you glad that you spent the extra money.

It's safe to say that 99% of shooters have no clue about anything better than a Bushnell 3200. I'm not a great shooter by any stretch of the imagination, but I know what a good quality scope can do, and it's a wonderful thing.

BTW, funny you should pick a Bushnell 3200, since I'm waiting on the big brown truck to bring mine today. It will fill in until I can afford the Loopy.

If you are going to hunt, and have never used a Burris, with it's bullet drop compensator, also called it's Ballistic Plex reticle, you don't know what you are missing. this is a fabulous scope, that you really get your money's worth, and they are fantastically bright and clear...

the only thing I would suggest other for that rifle, would be a nice nikon right now. they are truly priced right, and Japanese glass, has stringent govt. quality standards.

Thanks for the info guys. I was actually leaning towards a Burris right now with the Ballistic Plex Reticle. Which knobs should I go with? Hunters? Quad?

There are many many scopes out there, but I am going to reccomend one you've probably never heard of. I have one and I used the Military version for 14 years as a sniper. It is the Leatherwood ART scope . The ARTs are the only scope built with an external Ballistic Cam. What thei does the allow you to Range a target and pull the trigger and be cross hair son from 200 to 700 meters. thats the M-600 and the M-1200 will do the same out to 1200 meters. It just doesn't get any easier. Best sniper scope ever. the Army is going back to the M-1200s at a couple of units at Ft.Campbell.
