Seafoam

Ethyl alcohol is another term for ethanol. I'm not sure if that's what's in Seafoam, but if it is, it wouldn't make any sense to add it to gasoline for winter storage. Adding more ethanol to the gasoline would just make things worse.

Yeah. People pay extra for ethanol-free gas for winter storage and small engines. The last thing I would do is add ethanol to gas.

Seafood isn't ethanol, or at least it isn't primarily ethanol.

Seafood. Now I'm hungry!!

Guys. Name. BITOG and all. Seafoam has alcohol, but not ethanol. IPA. IsoPropyl Alcohol, around 20%. The rest is light cut petroleum distillates, naptha - classified as flammable so not longer oilier chains.

My wife hates the smell of #9. A few years ago I saw a men's cologne that was a Hoppe's #9 fragrance. I was going to get it but then thought better of it.:)

Hopes number 9 to clean the bore. I will probably be scolded but wd40 has always been on the outside of my weapons.

Check Brownell's web page. They did a test on rust preventatives. WD40 tested pretty high.

It appears to be rubbing alcohol + a variety of petrol-derived ingredients. As for the benefits, I can't imagine there would be many because of how many existing products are on the market that perform so well. Judging by the ingredients, I'm guessing it would be used as an all-in-one, and since it appears to be priced close to that of One Shot, that's a pretty high performance bar to match!!!

Here's the SDS for it

And here I thought it was a colour of paint. snicker. The stuff is a Fuel system treatment/Transmission treatment according to the MSDS. And it's a WHMIS Controlled Product. Don't drink it, inhale it or get it on you or in your eyes. No worse than any other such product though. Kind of pricey at $12.49 Cdn. for a 474 ml bottle(pint).

Isopropyl yes, but if you're going to make up your own you should note that "rubbing alcohol" is already 50% water. Since the purpose of the isopropyl in Seafoam is to get rid of the water, using rubbing alcohol would be counter productive. There is a product called (something like) "ISO-heat" which is pure (er?) isopropyl for automotive use. Seafoam is awesome for chainsaws and old tractors, but I never considered using it on my guns. I do use "Ed's Red" sometimes, so maybe one of the resident chemists could chime in on acetone vs. naphtha?
