There are many threads here about our gun laws, mostly complaints it seems. I guess most of us agree that there are too many of them and for the most part they are useless. But we can also agree the the United States of America must have the best gun laws on this planet, at least that is the conception.

From what I know, most countries have severe gun ownership limitations if not down right bans. As bad as our laws are, we ain't there yet.

Here is what I want to know. What country would be in second place, behind us, in having reasonable gun laws? I really would like to hear from folks that live, or at least have visited those countries.

From what I understand, New Zealand isn't that bad, but I have never been there. If there are any New Zealanders reading this, please let us know what you gun laws are like. Or from where ever you live.

Do a search for members "Shung" (his Swiss gunshow thread is something to see) and "KonradBaumgarten", and you'll find that the Swiss have laws more relaxed than our own in some ways. I've also seen some very surprising photos of French shooters & ranges on THR. I've also heard that NZ is good, and I was recently looking at a thread where a member mentioned building a MG there. Perhaps a PM to "crazybushman" might get him to jump in here and tell us.

Of course there are countries where you can have pretty much anything you want, but you wouldn't want to live there, regardless. Afghanistan and many African "nations" come to mind.

I don't understand how a law that infringes on a natural right is good or could be the "best". Once you've been around here long enough, you'll hear/see Canadians laughing at our barrel length laws, Europeans chiding us for suppressor regulations, and of course, Shung will show off his new full auto M4 that he built over the weekend.

Yeah, our laws are wonderful.

If it were in politician's hands the United Nations(big joke)would decide to ban all firearms in the U.S. and the push would come from countries where everyone above the age of 6 has an AK and IQ is less than their magazine capacity. This is one group of idiots we need to stop supporting. Our politicians screw things up without outside help. My personal opinion.

This thread is degenerating into political philosophy at a rapid rate.

As a generality, the US seems to have the least restrictive laws. Possibly Switzerland would be in 2nd place. Scandinavian countries also seem to be less restrictive than, say, England or Australia. Many countries have harsher laws, but sometimes they're either not enforced or can be avoided by bribery...

Enough.
