Security Six action parts

Can someone tell me the names of the parts that are typically polished up when an action job is done? I have a stainless Security Six, in the earlier serial number sequence, that I would like to return to stock condition. Some prior owner did an action job and did too much, the thing wants to slip off rest when in a single action fire-ready position. Double action it's actually pretty good, but even then, one out of six shots, after the trigger is stacked, it's wants to slip off - and sometimes does. Both single and double action, the trigger will occasionally nudge kind of a cockeyed sideways, slip off and give me an uncontrolled discharge. I see Security Six parts being sold on eBay all the time, but don't want to be randomly buying stuff I don't need. I know a poor trigger is not a natural characteristic of the revolver, as I have two other Security Sixes and they are great, but, this one, I'd like to return to stock condition.

Have Security Sixes been out of production for so long that Ruger won't repair them anymore? Just wondering. I think it's been at least 20 years since I bought my Security Six - used and abused. It was in almost the same condition as yours. That is, someone had given it a "kitchen table" action job and it could easily be pushed off rest with my thumb when in single action fire-ready position.
At any rate, I shipped it back to Ruger with a letter explaining I'd bought it used (for a song) and didn't expect a warranty. However, Ruger repaired it and sent it back - no charge. But like I say, that's been at least 20 years ago. Maybe Ruger doesn't even have parts for Security Sixes anymore.
Answering your question though - it was my Security Six's hammer itself that someone got a little too aggressive with a polishing stone on. It sound's like yours might have some trigger assembly problems as well.
I sure like Security Sixes. I wish Ruger still built them.

I called Ruger and they were clear, no parts and no service on a Security Six. Their next breath was to encourage me, multiple times, to send it in so they could "take a look". I said, "Now, you'll return it. Right?" To which they said yes, but I'm skeptical. I'm sure they'd rather not have something like this in the field, but I don't want a coupon for a GP100. I have a GP100 and for as much as I've tried to like that gun, I don't. Wear it hiking for three hours and you can't wait to get it off. Heck, the 4" GP 100 is far less comfortable to carry than the 6" Security Six. Wear a 4" Security Six all day and forget that it's there.

So, one opinion is for the hammer. Any other thoughts? What parts should I look to acquire on eBay? Thanks.

Sounds like a new hammer is needed (and maybe trigger group.)

Ebay is the word. Get on it and search for 'Ruger Security Six parts'.

Lots of them out there.

Just order the hammer and then drop it right in (it's real easy.) Test it. If the SA works, it works. If not, get a trigger group off Ebay.

Here is the hammer and some parts..

or just plain hammer (speed six parts are same as Security Six..)

Here is a trigger group.

or just a trigger.

New to the revolver scene, I am confused. How can ruger say they have on parts when ruger still makes single sixes?

The OP is asking about parts for a Security Six, not a Single Six. Yes, Ruger still makes Single Sixes, and they're great little single action .22s. But Ruger's Security Sixes, which are great double action .357 Magnums, have been out of production for a long time.

One3, the Security Six was a SA/DA mostly chambered in the 357 mag. cartridge.

The Single Six is SAO in 22 LR with some having a 22 mag. cylinder also.

I don't think the Single and the Security share parts with each other.

Hope that helps. :)

Edit: Boy am I a slow writer. .308 Norma beat me to the response.

I disassembled the revolver (Youtube can be so helpful.)
I think it's the hammer, I'll post some photos.
Also, the trigger group is a little gritty and that main pin does have some wiggle in it.
Would it be wise or not wise to soak the trigger group in parts cleaner? If not wise, is there anything that I could use to lube it? Or, just put it back the way I found it?

Yeah, I agree. I just pulled out my other two Security Sixes (one that I purchased new back in the day) and those triggers have a little wiggle, as well. I just never noticed. When I look at the photos that I just took of the hammer in question, I see a chamfer that I don't see on the eBay hammers.
