minty Ruger Security Six 2 3/4" blue steel, with shoulder holster

I have to drive 20 miles to look at this private sale.

The woman selling it has gained weight in the last 18 years since I last saw her, but the gun sill looks very new.

What would be the most likely price?

TIA

300-400 seems to be the going rate. Theres been several of these threads popping up lately, why can't I find a security six when i'm looking for one but after I buy one it seems there everywhere? If you search under security sixx you'll find all kinds of threads and alot of good info on them.

I'd price it around $350. For some reason, I've been seeing crazy high prices on Security Sixes lately. For what I've been seeing them for, I'd look for a GP-100 instead.

The value would depend on what you're willing to spend on a gun you're going to eventually blow-up anyway. The secondary price factor would be how much weight she's gained since you last saw her.

There was no better revolver made than the Security-Six. Why Ruger ever dropped it is a mystery to me. The very strong and easy-to-fieldstrip design, coupled with a reasonable weight made it just about ideal.
That's the 'reason' the prices are high.
The GP-100 is OK, but too heavy and blocky.

If'n ya blow it up please post an account of it on thr. I've never heard of this problem until now, just lotsa positive's.

They replaced it with two revolvers smaller 101 and larger 100 giving them more shelf space.

It has a 4" barrel.
I paid $300.
She did not look that bad, but she is a task oriented first born nerd.
The shoulder holster slows down my suspender deployment.

With .094" chamber walls, there is no way that revolver will blow up in a work up. The cases will stick bad before that.

I agree that the Security Six was one sweet gun. I kind of also wish they had kept them in production. I consider them to be superior to a K-Frame S&W, but the SP-101 is easier to carry and the GP-100 is easier to shoot.
Still, a 4" Security Six would fit the role of that proverbial "what handgun if you could only have one" very well.

300 for one in good shape is a good buy. Not too long ago the going price for these was 200. They just keep going up. I wish I had bought qall those 175$ six series revo's when I had the chance!

Tell you what, a 4" Speed-6 in either .38 or .357 is very tough to beat.
Very quick into action, and rugged as can be.

In a Security/Service/Speed-6 platform the .38 Sp. doesn't suffer one bit, as it can be loaded VERY hot. I've loaded it w/ Keith 168 gr. SWC at a high velocity. Just perfect.

There's nothing wrong with the gun, Clark's kind of our problem child when it comes to hot loads and sending guns to gun heaven. Come over to the reloading forum and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Been carrying, using, and shooting Security and Service Sixes since 1980. Took the armorer's course on them a few years later. I have *almost* enough of them. Nothing breaks.

Probably the best DA revolver ever made. Not necessarily the prettiest, but probably the best.

It seems like suddenly everybody loves this revolver, including me. For a long time they could be picked up at gun shows for $150-$200 but suddenly they are appreciated and appreciating! I wish I had taken advantage of the cheap prices 10 years ago and bought a few dozen for investment purposes. If you want one this is the time to buy. They will NEVER be any cheaper than they are right now and Ruger is not making any more.

Well, I have a looks-new Ruger Security Six .357 Mag, Blued, Pachmayr Presentation Rubber Grips, 6” bbl that I'll be selling (with the red and black cardboard box, manual, even the bag and yellow ring) that I believe to be late 1970s manufacture, (based on the 1977 printing date on the manual), as soon as someone gets to liking it more than I do. I bought it because I knew it was "special". I'll end up selling it because I like S&W Revolvers better, which is nothing against Ruger, it's just a personal "feel" thing for me, as it should be.

Inherited a "Service Six" in December of last year when my dad died. I find it to be rock-solid, and a good shooter, especially with the rubber (unknown-make) grips on it. I don't know how old this gun is, or who put the grips on (if they're not OEM.) I didn't grow up with him. He carried this as a deputy sheriff some time ago, and kept it 'round his desert homestead until he died.
It's now my bedside gun, though loaded with .38SPL ammo.

I picked up a 4" blued one last summer for $300 w/ 2 sets of grips & a soft case. Gun is in excellent condition. It got me started in reloading.
Already had one but it was my Dad's & held a lot of sentimental value, so I didn't want to shoot it all the time. My son has more fun shooting the revolvers than anything else.
Now I have 3. I think I'm going to start collecting Security Sixes, they're so much fun. The GP100 is a great gun but just a little too bulky

Does anyone either have a link or just know the differences between the Security/Speed/Service Sixes? I'm getting a 4" stainless Security Six this week, but don't know that much about them yet. I'm excited to finally be getting a Ruger wheelgun!
