Seeking Recommendations: 15-round 9mms

Asking people what 15 round 9mm is best is like asking what their favorite color is. 15 round 9mm's have literally the best options in handguns. I personally think the best 9mm pistol is the Cz p01 which has a 14 round mag, but the +1 will give you 15 rounds. The omega version offers the ability to switch between safety/decocker. The problem with that pistol is actually physically finding one. Every other option mentioned already is also great. The Arex zero 1 compact is supposed to be imported early 2017 and that gun is building up a lot of steam in the gun community with its outstanding performance.

Another vote for the Sig SP2022. Sig ergonomics and great DA/SA mechanism. Not too heavy. Mine has been incredibly reliable (and it fell off a vehicle moving 45mph...if that little voice in your head says "I put it back in the trunk", you didn't put it back in the trunk). Could be carried fairly easily especially if you're going OWB which should be fairly easy if everyone's wearing ski jackets which I automatically assume is how all Coloradans dress.

Only thing is the magazines can be hard to find.

Moving soon to Colorado, one of two or three states with an odd 15 round limit on magazines. I need a new full size 9mm since my dad took my (actually his) Ruger P-95 back, but most of them seem to have standard magazine sizes of 16 rounds or larger.

I'm looking for exactly 15. Glock 19 is probably going to be my choice, and I believe the Beretta 92F is also a 15-rounder. But what else is out there with standard magazines that are exactly 15 rounds?
Why not a Ruger P-95?

Why not a Ruger P-95?

It certainly is reliable and well-made, but ergonomically it didn't quite work for me, and I didn't care for the trigger. I've heard Ruger P-series triggers described as "mushy", and that pretty well sums up my impression.

I am leaning toward the Glock 19, my brother has one and I liked shooting it, plus I've got my eye on a couple of 9mm carbines down the road that take Glock mags. A couple of SIGs have caught my eye though, and I am not that familiar with CZs but they look interesting too.

I guess it's better to have too many choices than too few.

Have you actually played with one even? I'm curious about the safety. The one on my 75B is great, snicks into place with just the right amount of pressure and is easy to hit instinctively.

On my P07 with the safety installed, it's a little hard to find, and is pretty stiff without signs of breaking in much better. It seems like it's in a slightly different position for me as well.

If the P01 Omega is more similar to the 75B I'm sold.

A little late, but I should have asked about takedown. Some guns are a little tricky to disassemble or reassemble. It won't be a dealbreaker (unless it's something like the Ruger Mk III), but it's nice to know ahead of time if I should expect any surprises or difficulties

I have not. I'll have to look around a bit, as I haven't seen any in the local gun shops I go to.

Another vote for the HK VP9. Great trigger. Since you found the Ruger trigger mushy, I'm surprised you like the Glock..

You can't go wrong with a G19. I've shot them and just don't like Glocks myself, but if you like the ergonomics and enjoy shooting them, there's no dispute that they are reliable guns.

I'm not a fan of CZ's poly frame guns either, but I've always liked their aluminum and steel framed guns. They just have great ergonomics and fit my hands really well. I like the placement of all the controls and the low bore center with the slide rails inside the frame. They've always been easy to shoot for me. A lot of folks are turned off by the CZ trigger when the guns are new, but if you shoot them a lot, they smooth out after a few thousand rounds and all mine have nice triggers now.

No I have not held a p01 omega version yet as the gun shops and stores I go to either don't get any or they are gone as soon as they do. I would use the decocker instead of the safety so it wouldn't be a problem for me. For me the safety on the standard Cz 75b is a little awkward to get to. Seems it should be a little further to the rear of the frame. Either way I still love my 75b. I'm close to just giving in a getting the next standard p01 I see. I just prefer the trigger and hammer of the omega version

Another recommendation for the CZ 75 family, compact or regular size depending upon what you want. The compacts (Compact, PCR, or P-01) are just large enough to accommodate a full-fingered grip and shoot very, very well. (You might want to add the rubber base if you buy a compact with the metal base plate which may have your pinky riding on the plate.) CZ%2075s%2085%2097B%20left%201a_zpsacj5jxds.jpg

Add the Cajun Gun Works Ultra-Lite kit to whatever you get, fire (or dry-fire) the gun about 3-400 times if needed, and the trigger will most likely be great if it's not already great out of the box. Mine were all good out of the box, but further improved with some use.

I've had the chance to shoot the Glock,VP9, the Sig modular pistol (can't remember the model number at the moment) the PPQ M2 and the PPQ M1 back to back. I keep coming back to the original PPQ M1. Points well, good balance, accurate and the controls are easy to use from either side. It's been durable and had proven to be reliable with minimal maintenance. The biggest downside is, with my hands, if I misplace a thumb, the slide will sometimes not lock back on an empty chamber

Plus one here on CZ's. I think that I have 14,15,16 and nineteen rounders. CZ 75 mags fit in my compact and PO1. DMK, nice!

16turbo, also very nice. Looks like my CZ collection, except I have a compact not a PCR . As for the 97, I have not found one yet.

You'll most likely be thrilled with the 97 B if you like the 75 family. I'm more of a 9mm guy, but after getting the 97 B I definitely would not give it up, Its a great gun, feels so good shooting it. If you have small hands instead of medium/largish, you might find it a bit big, but I find it to fit my hand better than a 1911. I find the internet rumor about needing large hands for a 97 B to be myth.

I'm already here in CO I moved from PA and I love it out here. The 15 rd. mag cap law here is a PITA. Personally I'd buy a CZ 75B with 16 rd. mags where you are at now & ship it parcel post through an FFL to your new address when you get settled. All perfectly legal. Once you get here in CO, you can't buy or sell a pistol with > 15rd. mags, but you can own & use a pistol with > 15rd. mags here. I checked it all out and I have no problem shooting my 75B with 16 round mags or my G-17 with 17 round mags at any of the indoor ranges here.

Sig P320 Compact has a 15 round capacity in 9mm.

Buy something made in America
I agree with both posts. I'm not a semi-auto guy, more of a revolver freak. I bought a Glock G19 and while it shot perfectly I just didn't like how it fit my hand. I replaced it with the Sig P320 and I'm glad I did. It shoots well, is accurate and feels good in my hand. It's not a lot of money either.
