Hah, I don't even worry about it anymore, my only concern is if I can get dies.

I'll add .357 & .44 Mag, 7mm, shortly, maybe a .260 Rem, as Zack pointed out in another thread

Then I'm done as far as caliber. No .50 here in CA.

The heck with cutting down, I keep making my list longer. There is always some obscure cal. to get.

I have six rounds of .22 magnum and a bulk-pack of .22lr, but no guns for either of them. Been thinking of getting another .22lr, though. :)

Quick inventory revels 26 sets of dies. Everytime You think You have a problem You discover someone is worse off than You are...Essex

Only....

.22 LR
.40 SW
.223
.308

No more..... my goal is to keep 4k+ for each in the safe. So far I'm ahead of my goal.. :)

Gawd

I feel so . . . inadequate.

Damn.

I mean, what,
  • .22 LR,
  • 9mm,
  • .357/.38,
  • .40 S&W,
  • .223/5.56,
  • .30 Carbine,
  • .30-30
. . . and that's it?

Seven calibres. Seven?

* Hangs head *

:(

I'm such a loser.

Gotta do something about that.

Well, some people go shopping when they're depressed. I guess I could go shopping.

After all, I still don't own a 1911.

Unfortunately the person who said standardization is bad might turn out to be right. Ammo for obscure calibers is still available at pretty much the same (high) prices. Common calibers 9mm, .45acp, .223, .308, and 7.62x39 have dried up. Or are quite spendy. Last Orlando gunshow had (200rd) battlepacks of 25+ y/o Portuguese @ $120. I paid that much for a case of the same ammo not too long ago. Oh well, I'm not running out and buying any guns in .35 Whelan. Joe

I did give my .30-30 to a friend who needed it so I don't stock/reload it any more. However:

9x29R/9x31R (.38 spcl/.357 Magnum)
9x19
.44 spcl/.44 Magnum
.45 ACP/.45 Auto Rim

5.56x45
.303
7.62x39
7.62x51
7.62x63 (.30-'06)
.375 Hollands' Magnum

This really isn't too hard to keep up with. Other deleted cartridges: .300 Weatherby Magnum, .338 Winchester Magnum, .300 Winchester Magnum. I just load the .375 appropos a particular critter if the 7.62x63 isn't enough. If more than two tons' muzzle energy isn't enough, it's time to call in a fire mission.

I have 8 calibers of which I have become rather proficient in. I guess I am less a collecter and more of a person who likes to be well-trained in the few weapons he owns.
A new caliber is a big deal to me ie new dies, etc and stockpiles of ammo. Would much rather buy duplicates of weapons already owned....usually!

I don't see a point in standardizing a collection in terms of ammunition. Buy bulk ammo for the guns you shoot most, and buy a box or two every time you want to take out one of the less used ones.

Pharmer,
Que? Si! Mi
:D Theat was the funniest thing I've read all day.
For all you non-floridians=Kissimmee

I have all the common calibers myself. I paid $150/1000 for Port and only bought 2k rounds. Back then I thought that was a lot of ammo. :banghead:

Well, it would allow you to stock up more in a few calibers rather than distributing your budget across many.

Let's see... I only need to keep up a stock of 21 calibers. :(

I could shoot one round of each and have a 21 gun salute! :D
