Avondale Police Officers use Sig?

Yeah. After daughter #2 wrecked her car recently I showed up on the scene to sort things out. While waiting for the tow truck I chatted with an Avondale Police Office. "P220?", I asked. "Yep. .45.", he responds. He made a point to warn me about rust too.

Tulsa Police Department uniforms carry Glock 22s in .40 S&W. I think the 23 is available for plainclothes.

Tulsa County Sheriff's Office deputies carry Glock 21s in .45 ACP.

I've been interested in possibly doing F B I or going into law enforcement one day, but since I can barely hold a Glock .40 (my hands are very small) would there be any exceptions made for a female because of that such as different weapon type, etc?

This was always one thing that I felt like would be a downside to joining...

The pistol that fits me perfectly in the Kahr 9mm or .40 - supposed to be comparable to the Glock.

What do you think?

Generally no exceptions are made. If you work at it you can do remarkably well with a Glock. I knew many small agents and inspectors who do well with G17s and G19s. Might not be the easiest thing for you to handle but you really can adapt to any size grip if you have to.

Brenainn - FBI agents can choose either the Glock 22 or 23.

The girth of G22 and 23 are the same which wouldn't help a small hand problem. The 17,19,22, 23, 26 and 27 all have the same girth. The extra length of grip on the standard and compact models have no bearing on addressing the girth issue.

Brenainn, if you get accepted to the FBI they will teach you to shoot a Glock 40 well don't worry.

Hmm... seems like they would want me to at least be able to hold one well though! LOL, I am 4' 11'' so I really am small. Come to think about it, I wonder if there is a hight minimum to join! :) If so, I might not pass more because of that than the pistol issue!

Many of the fedral law enforcement officers are armed not because of the job that they perform but because of the job that they could be told to perform.

During the 60s the goverment put border patrol agents on the riot lines of many race riots.

Wasnt Al Capone arested by tax colectors?

Military Criminal Investigators carry SIG 225s in 9mm only because nothing screams military police more than the M9

The Coast Guard is currently switching over from the M9 to a Sig P229 in .40. We've already phased it out in basic training and a lot of smaller units, but they want the units that do the most LE to deplete their supply of 9mm ammo before they switch.

I know several people who have went through FLETC for various special agent positions. Not being able to fire the gun correctly is the biggest reason people wash out. The goverment basically pays a premium of 25% for you to be able to carry and shoot. They never make exceptions and they do not allow you to deviate from the official carry weapon.

I think a lot of info posted on the board is out of date. The majority of federal agencies now carry Glock 22s.

That 25% is either Administratively Uncontrollable Overtime or Availability Pay. You're expected to put in at least of 40 hours of overtime a month to get it. It has nothing to do with carrying and shooting.

Not being able to fire the gun correctly is the biggest reason people wash out.

Having gone through a bunch of courses at FLETC if you can't shoot you deserve to be washed out (not really that common). They have some the best firearms instructors around and will work after hours with you if required.
If they can't teach you to shoot good enough in FLETC you probably don't have the dexterity to handle any gun.
