Holy schmolly! A stun gun? A .38 revolver?! SEVERAL ROUNDS OF AMMO?!?! This man was obviously planning to start WWIII! What sane citizen needs this kind of arsenal?

Mmmm, I dunno. Maybe a free sane citizen. You people over on the other side of the Atlantic should really give freedom a try. I hear it's great.

keith please try to read the story before foaming into your usual "orwellian england" monologues - he spent three and a half months in prison, not a year, and burglars do get put in prison almost all the time.

He was sentenced to twelve months. As opposed to the new sentencing guidelines in Great Britain which prevent burglars from being imprisoned except in the case of repeat arrests, etc.

You people have just got it wrong over there.

Keith

keith,

yet you said:

"He has already spent a year in prison and now this board is determining how they can further ruin his life"

which is wrong, he spent three and a half months in prison. You also wrote:

"This in a country where burglars are no longer sent to prison..."

which is also wrong, as you now admit.

[edited for an ommision]

Yes, I got it wrong. His actual imprisonment was for a shorter span than I had indicated. And it is true that SOME burglars can push the envelope enough to get prison time.

The point is still valid. In your country, owning a gun to protect yourself against home invaders is a greater crime than invading a home.

Orwell is vindicated!

Keith

Agricola: You Brit's are always so calm and rational about these things. Granted, he broke the law - but it is an unjust law. The man dared to own a handfull of bullets and some handguns? Now he has to publicly crawl and beg for forgiveness? That sounds like Asian communist philosophy.
Do you have to be a member of Parliment to scream, shout, and pound your fist in protest over there?

You're so fortunate to have such a gentle, caring, and humanistic dictatorship in GB today - they are gently raising the temperature on your fine kettle of Frogs.

Patrick Henry must be postively spinning in his grave.

Do you get the feeling...

...that the Germans finally won? Just well after the fact...

I don't think the Germans would have let it get THIS bad...:scrutiny:

You're so fortunate to have such a gentle, caring, and humanistic dictatorship in GB today - they are gently raising the temperature on your fine kettle of Frogs.

I think they're already at a rolling boil...:banghead:

How much do ya'll want to bet they didn't get all his guns!:D

I'm guessing that he had to grovel at the feet of the govt to get them off his back.

Good Shooting

WOW!

As I sit reading this thread (and its attendant bickering), my three kids are in our gunroom priming 300 rounds of 9mm for their loving mother. I cannot help but feel sorry for this English fellow who finds himself in this ridiculous predicament. From our perspective it seems easy to insult the Brits for so easily surrendering their rights, but we should not be so cocky that it blinds us to the threat to our own freedoms.

I will instead take this opportunity to acknowledge the sacrifices that our forefathers made. And in a concillatory and sympathetic gesture I will offer free range time with any of my family's firearms to any Brit who finds him or herself in Maine with some free time on their hands. The ammo is also on us. Come on over and shoot for friendship and freedom.

"RULE, BRITANNIA,
BRITANNIA RULE THE WAVES!

BRITONS NEVER EVER
SHALL BE SLAVES!"

Hahaha! What a joke! What a pathetic bunch of cringing begging whining forelock-tugging slaves!!!!

As it happens, Hosty was part of a group operating from a legitimate gun club who had been reactivating firearms post-ban, and all those involved in the group were raided simultaneously, which to me suggests that a "test purchase" had been made by undercover police.

as for the justification, well it is our country after all, and noone can really claim ignorance of this particular law. I would also doubt the mans mitigation that he was seeking to defend his family based on the others convicted with him.
So what you're saying is that this Hosty guy isn't so much a victim of the state as he is a true hero?

Well then, rock on. :D

Agricola, I read the article and noticed they kept using terms like "GUN-obsessed" to describe this teacher. Made him sound like he was mentally ill. Agricola, do you think people who enjoy firearms and keep firearms for self defense are mentally ill? Do you think the members of this board are sick? Is this the future we, as gun owners, will face if people like you gain control of our country? Would you send police to kick in the doors of our homes and drag us out? Stand us up in court and publicly humiliate us, imprison us, turn us into pariahs?
I can understand your desire to rid the world of gun violence, but at what price? I'm afraid of you and people like you.
