since i found out knives are looked down on in ireland by the police, i wondered about taking my shillelagh with me instead. i hear the pub areas get nasty around last call. any help on legal issues?
A walking sick or cane is legal everywhere, so far as I know, whether made of Blackthorn or any other wood.
I've traveled all over Ireland and elsewhere in Europe with walking sticks, and never had a word from the local constabulary.
The traditional Irish shillelagh was sometimes quite a bit shorter than a cane, and might well be viewed in the same (legal) light as a cudgel or bludgeon, accordingly, but if it was of such a length that you were using it as a walking stick or staff, there should be no problem. Just be sure you don't pour molten lead down holes drilled into the head of the stick, as they used to do a century ago!
Currently you should be especially welcome if you're a tourist in Ireland; they're in a recession, and glad for tourist dollars!
Unless your looking for trouble then I dought you'll get into any, as far as im aware the avearage americian is generally liked, just dont metion us Brits to much and you be fine
I don't quite understand, you are going to Ireland, and plan to bring a Blackthorn walking stick with you??????(and faux Blackthorn, if you're looking at Cold Steel's) Isn't that very geographically close to taking coal to Newcastle? Alright, you're young, you mightn't get the Newcastle reference(but you seem bright, so you might). How about bringing a case of Guinness to Dublin.
yea i had already seen the website he got it from. looks really nice.im thinking about getting mine from them. but im really looking for one with abit of a bigger, heavier, rounder knob on top.
