Shiny Colt

Hot damn, that’s nice. A LNIB nickel Gov’t Model from, what, the late 50’s, early 60’s? Wowza. I love seeing old pictures of the Colt factory showing those massive spinning leather straps and wheels they used to use. The machines, and more importantly the trained polishing techs, are all gone. It’s just amazing that it was a standard factory polish in those days. Nickel also has a wamth you don’t get from high-polished stainless, too. A custom polish and nickel job on a 1911 today would be, what, $700 from Ford’s et alia? More from Turnbull? Congratulations on a great find and an absolutely gorgeous gun.

My shiny Colt would be my Combat Commander by way of Colt's own custom shop. Part of a limited edition that they made, it has bright nickel plating instead of the usual matte electroless nickel that they used on the Commanders and Combat Commanders.

Dang. I had at one time a satin nickel combat commander and I will say, the bright nickel/matte looks much better than the satin nickel, even accounting for the wear that was on mine. Thats really sharp.

That matte finish on the front strap really shows off that Ultimate Chrome finish. For my 2¢ they should have used matte on the barrel bushing, slide stop & safety, if only to mirror how the Custom Shop did the electroless nickle jobs.
