Driving down to Arthur Bryants is fun, kind of like hunting water bufflao while walking through africa. Keeps you on your toes.
This has got to be one of the more unintelligent comments I've seen on THR lately. For those of you not familiar w/ the KC area, Arthur Bryant's is kind of a KC landmark. It is a very good BBQ place that has had a lot of celebrities/presidents through it throughout the years, AND IT IS ABOUT 5 BLOCKS FROM WHERE THAT VIDEO WAS SHOT!!!
Its kind of one those spots thats in the middle of a rough area, but is frequented by so many different types of people that it doesn't have any problems that often. BUT, on the other hand, you do have gangs and ignorant people just like the ones in that video surrounding the area in every direction.
I'm not telling you to fear for yourself, but I don't think you should be comparing your little field trip to the hood to an african safari.
I've been around people like that, in those exact same areas and worse surrounding areas, as a matter of fact. I spent a good two years of my life surrounded by people like that before I managed to get myself away from it. I seen people get robbed at gunpoint, and I've seen 15 year-kids riding around w/ ak-47s in cars a crackhead let them borrow for the day in return for a few pieces of dope. I'm lucky I wasn't killed before then w/ as much shi*t as I've been around.
The problem w/ people like this is not that they have guns. I'm pretty sure that everybody here (THR) has a gun or two... The problem is that they have nothing to lose and life is so cheap. And if you have nothing, anything is something. People getting shot is just accepted as matter of fact. 'Oh yeah, we bout to go see _______. He got shot last night...' casual as hell. O yeah, and don't forget, somebody's got to get even, so there goes another gunfight somewhere right down the street from your favorite restaurant.
The other problem is the scenario if a situation were to arise. You and me have certain obligations being a legal gun owner, namely that you are held accountable for what happens w/ your gun. So if something happens with your gun, it comes back to you and you have to answer to it. Theirs, on the other hand, gets tossed in the river and that is the end of their worries (unless of course it was on a rival gang and they have to worry about retaliation). So imagine this scenario. Your on your way to eat and all of a sudden you have 15-year old kid shooting a stolen AK out of a stolen car at you maybe just b/c he wanted to prove to somebody else how big his nuts are. And even if somehow it were to get traced back to them, what do they care? Its not like they're out getting home loans or credit cards. Most of them don't even have state id's. And even if they do get caught, what do they care? Thats a right of passage.
