What a heroic defender. I'd love to know what weapon he used.

The screengrab is incredible. He sprung into action heroically, immediately, and without hesitation to save himself and others. One can only imagine how one might react in those circumstances but I would pray for the same courage and clarity of purpose.

How many might have died if not for this defender and his brave actions? This isnt even a mass shooting per FBI guidelines and it could have been much worse.

I hope we get more details on the defender and his state of mind.

God bless those in Texas who are hurting.

Looks like a security guard from this picture.

Yeah, not just a church security guard, but apparently a former FBI agent according to this account:

https://dfw.cbslocal.com/2019/12/29/2-dead-1-critically-injured-shooting-white-settlement-church/

"A witness told CBS 11 News the gunman walked up to a server during communion with a shotgun and then opened fire. According to the witness, another church member — identified as a former FBI agent and part of the church’s security — shot the suspect."

It sure didn't take long for this story to make to the headlines....

I just heard this on the radio. There was no mention of the gunman being stopped by armed church members. I wondered if that may have been the case. I guess that doesn't "fit the narrative".

Hard to tell from the video but he approached one of the armed guards first and shot him?

This guy must have known this place had armed guards if so and that's rare when a mass shooter picks a hard target vs. a soft target like a school.

Personally, I doubt the animal knew and if he did; he was suffering from a severe case of over confidence. Simply said, when there is one, there is usually more.
Let's be honest, if anyone of us planned on attacking a target; would we choose a soft or hard target?

Received this link from retired deputy sheriff friend:
Luckily, at least five armed members of the church instantly responded and jumped into action as soon as the shooting started. Within three seconds of the first shot, one member shot the shooter and killed him before he could harm more people.

Was it a worshipper, the security guard, or part of the church security team (mentioned below) that stopped the gunman, or some combination?
Possibly all three, but certainly part of the security team, at a minimum. He was standing at the rear of the church and appears to be carrying a significant amount of equipment on his belt. It's not possible to tell for certain if he was wearing a uniform, but it does look that way. It also appears that he was carrying openly and it's clear that he was officially acting as security in some capacity.

The shooter appears to have used a pistol grip shotgun, or something very similar.

<<Edited. More careful analysis of the video indicates that Wilson does not appear to be in uniform and did have some sort of cover garment. As he walks over towards the shooter's body, the garment falls back into place covering his belt.>>

I hope there is a hell and the gunman is burning right now. It’s a damn shame he did this and to see the video of so many people not expecting it, it’s hard to watch. Being “tactically minded” would make me respond in some way ASAP. To see innocent elderly, woman and children in the church at the time of the shooting, knowing they are incapable of an effective response is sad. Thank God there was a good guy who responded so effectively.

That video is something else. I can only imagine the shock of the parishioners. The person who reacted by shooting the gunman was no doubt a hero and deserves recognition for performing so admirably. Now I'm curious why that nut job showed up there to do that.

Careful, aimed fire from the security guard. Amazing, really. The BG was lifting his shotgun and heading to the pastor, I’m almost certain. Second 00:18. Guy was heading down the aisle to do more harm, shotgun pointed at the stage. Boom. Never knew what hit him. Practice practice, fellows.

There’s a lot to observe here… man. That lady who ran to help the dead guy, freaking out, trying to get help. Heros, bad guys, and victims, all in one very vivid sequence.

The guard took -- and near-instantaneously made -- one heckava shot.

The perp was in the sanctuary, then left and came back. I don't know if he was dressed in an overcoat before he left, but if he wasn't and was when he came back then he would stand out. I am willing to bet that when we finally get the story - if the guard talks - I believe he will say that he had been watching this guy because of his behavior and dress. That might be one reason that he was able to act so quickly.

So much for only having to engage targets at 7yds and in as many folks advertise.

And the guy that got shot, which I assume was on the security team as it certainly looked like he was drawing, is a prime example of why not to hesitate to get into the game.

Also, the rest of the "security team" needs some serious reevaluation. I count three other guys coming onto the scene guns drawn and randomly pointed about at anything and anyone.

Tragic situation and the guard that engaged did a hell of a job, and as fast as probably anyone could've.
