Shooting my .40's.

I was an early adopter back when the .40 first came out but nothing really seemed to pan out and hadn't had one for years----then in 18 or 19 --?? can't remember exactly---I picked up a new fullsize Gen 1 M&P for a song--this one actually has a decent trigger and has become the house gun---its not going anywhere.

Not a big fan of the .40 but its nice to have options as has been proven out by the last decade--if no 9mm is available there will probably .40 or 10mm or .45 and so on.

I have and carry on rotation a Sig 239 .40 , A Witness Compact .40 with 14 round mags , an ex CHP S&W 4006 , and an S&W Shield .40 . I used to EDC a Walther PPS M1 .40 but traded to my son for his Walther PPS 9mm. The Witness .40 and the Sig 239 are my favorites of the bunch both are sweetly tuned and very accurate. I became a .40 guy in the early 2000s as I figured there was LOTS of cop ammo around if SHTF . Also the balistics are very similar to .45 acp IMHO as a 200 grain bullet has about the same velocity out of both formats with .05" difference in diameter.
The 4006 was was of these when Calif changed their mind for CHP. It really has all the bells and whistles and is a tank of a weapon and with a light on it makes for a great home defense weapon in a quick open safe :) I keep mine full of Winchester Ranger 165 grain T series ammo .

I regret not picking up one of the CHP 40s back before CV19/elections. It would have been a nice companion to my 4006.
At this point I’m waiting for DW DWX in 40 to scratch my .40 itch.

I bought a new M&P compact .40 today. 3.6" barrel, 13+1. I've got the same pistol in 9mm, but have a lot more access to .40 ammo. Plus, I can load it with my 10mm dies.
That’s going to be my next handgun, I wanted a .40 subcompact last year but they discontinued it so I bought a Shield40.

That’s a Cool .40! love the looks of the early 2000’s .40, like the Ruger P’s! and the Glock 23’s

nothing says 2001 like .40 cal guns! wrap around Houge grips and a Weaver stand

Since you have an affinity for Ruger P-series & Hogue wrap around grips.

My current carry. M&P 2.0 40 Compact with 4" barrel.

Edited to Add: The stock grips on the Ruger actually feel better in my hand but I shoot better with the Hogues. I think it is because the finger grooves keep the gun from slipping in my hand. I don't have that issue with the M&P as the grip texture is pretty aggressive.

I’m sorry man! I was just trying to lighten the mood! Well, I hope your getting a bunch of SS and retirement money! You can always do like the other older shooters and shoot PRS!

No problem, it is what it is, it's been almost 14 years ago and I'm doing OK financially, the SS pays my rent 100%, and I'm close to debt free (car), so it's all pretty good.
