What do you guys get more enjoyment shooting at: paper or stuff (ie jugs, soda cans, fruit, etc.)?

I personally shoot about 5 shots at paper to get it dialed then go to town on some RC Cola and other various it cheap Wal-Mart items. Just curious to what everyone else thinks.

Depends on what and where I'm shooting. Most ranges, my local one included, frown upon anything other than paper and anywhere other than stapled to their target backers. If I'm at the range, I shoot paper. If I'm doing load development. I shoot paper.

If I'm just going out to burn some ammo or blow off some steam, paper isn't very satisfying. I need something that reacts. For that purpose, I have a box of empty plastic bottles and I grab a bunch and fill them with water on the way to the other area that I shoot that isn't a formal range.

I do the same thing.

A friend of mine has a few "Rolling Targets" that basically roll when hit. Their position/distance is always changing. Lots of fun.

As with most I enjoy "Stuff".

But I also pick up the remnants of my stuff when I leave.

Wouldn't it be great if everyone picked up their stuff when the leave.

Rifle, I tend to shoot paper. Handgun, I shoot paper and plates with plates getting a higher round count. The op's poll doesn't have enough granularity. I suspect more people shoot for group with rifles than they do with handguns.

Clutch

Paper only when I'm working up a load or checking my zero. Otherwise...Rocks, man I love to shoot at rocks far,far away.

Coyotes, woodchucks, crows...

I'll check zero on paper, same with load development. And of course i shoot whatever the target is in competition.

I get that shooting groups (paper) is the point to most people when the rifle come out but to me it gets boring when nothing happens down range after the gun goes boom.

I love shooting tight groups but get a bigger smile when golf balls and soda cans are reduced to useless pieces. Rocks are awesome to shoot and cheap to get, lol

I shoot for fun and to me thats more fun.

Stuff's cool. I lived on an old ranch where junk had been dumped for many generations in big pit (like they used to do back then). For months, I'd dig around and scrounge tons of old medicine bottles, all sizes, shapes and all glass. Then I'd set up little shooting galleries for my pistol. Loads of fun. Glass is a very satisfying reactive target. The place was a giant junk heap anyway, so the broken glass didn't make any more mess than was already there. Old refrigerators from the '50s make nice targets for shooting groups on. Paper is okay, but stuff is better.

We have a spot where people put old appliances and the like. The most fun I've had there was shooting at an ironing board for a good hour with my .22 lever action.

Another really fun target is old TVs.

At a range, paper only.

On my family farm, paper for load development but beyond that pop cans & plastic bottles are common cannon fodder...but are always picked up once shooting is done. Also done the "shoot at limestone" thing, and its nice when hits are so obvious.

I've bought some steel plates that I'm sure will quickly become my favorite targets once I get them installed.

Shot at some cinder blocks the other day with my AK-47. Now THAT is fun!!!

We were actually comparing how destructive the smaller 5.45x39mm is when shot side by side with it's older brother. It didn't do too bad.

After that day, I'm totally converted. Shooting at 'stuff' is a lot more fun than shooting at paper.

I'll zero in on paper targets, but I love popping junk items across the range. I am one of the more courteous people who clean up after themselves.

I don't shoot beer or soda cans. Not with a $0.10 deposit on each one. Milk jugs, 5 gallon buckets, and pretty much anything else that won't cause a hazard to myself or others, is fair game.

That's a tough one. I used to be into shooting a lot of "stuff". Then I bought a shot timer and began practicing drills on paper. That was addictively fun. I recently tried one of the interwed recipes for ballistic gel and had a great time. From testing new loads with a chronogragh and homemade ballistic gel I concluded that as long as I'm able to shoot, I have fun.

I voted wrong (I misread the OP, and thought it was asking what I shoot more of). Definitely don't have convenient access to anywhere that I can shoot stuff, so I mostly shoot paper. I do try and shoot trap from time-to-time, but that's once every couple of months, rather than my two-to-three trips per month to the range to shoot paper.

Stuff for sure. Here are some favorites.

Cans or bottles of soda.
Overripe fruit and veggies. (Citrus is best)
Golf balls
Cookies
Balloons, especially water balloons
CDs and DVDs

I think I actually shoot stuff better than bullseyes (I gotta live up to my screenname after all! :) )
I really like clays at 100 yds for my .22's, and shards of them when closer. Soda/beer cans full of water are the best, followed closely by small water balloons, sometimes old golf balls. When I first got my rifle club membership, all the half-or-less-filled plastic mustard, mayo, bbq sauce etc. bottles got filled the rest of the way with water and met a hot death! SPLOC!

At the range, basically its paper targets......... however...... one has been known to put up a few golf balls while stapling paper up! Whats fun, get a golf ball, take a drill and drill the finest hole you can in it, use a tiny bit, put super glue in the hole and put fishing line in that hole. When they are dried and line won't pull out, staple where they can swing in the wind, "then" try to hit them, if there is a breeze! Then you can guess how good one is.

I prefer shooting stuff like jugs of red jello/dyed water or anything else that makes a little show on impact
