Okay, I did not get DQ'd or anything. My mistake was more equipment related. I had shot in "Action Shoots" before, and I was able to use my CZ 75 hicap magazines at their full capacity. In fact, I shot the whole last shoot with one 10rnd and 15 rnd magazine each.

So, I show up with three mags, one 10rnd, two hicaps--one of the hicaps being a non-factory one that I only used for target practice only due to spotty reliability. Geesssh, I have to use it now! I quickly found out that the two stages required up to four seperate magazines--I ended up not even being able to shoot the last three paper targets on the first of the two 4-mag stages! On another stage, the unreliable, non-factory hicap caused two malfunctions (lips not tight enough)! Arrrrggghhhh! I was about to walk away. A nice guy fixed my non-factory hicap problem with pliers, so it looked like I had three good mags for the last stage.

The last stage was the classifier. Since I was not shooting for classification, the RO allowed me to load my hicaps all the way, change mags when required, but then reuse the hicaps with rounds still remaining. THAT stage felt good--I had fun with it. I am not sure what it means yet, but I shot 81 points in 31 seconds. THAT stage was fun.

Anyway, word to the wise for those looking into their first match, CHECK OUT the requirements before you get there!

Anyone know where to get inexpensive factory mags for the CZ 75B?! And a nice holster. And (4) mag pouches. And a smith that can make my mags fall free (I pulled the mag brake out--no help--still get stuck). It may have been frustrating, but I have to go back and do better!

That doesn't sound like a disaster to me, just a steep learning curve. The second match I shot involved a high round count field course, I told the RO that I was going to have to reload a mag. He turned to the rest of the squad - "hey, someone lend the guy a couple mags". They did, without hesitation. As long as you didn't finish last, get hurt or dq'd it's not a disaster. DVC.

Not a disaster at all; like anything else, there's a learning curve, and you'll learn to shoot a stage the best way for YOU. In IPSC scoring, they divide your score by your time to get a "hit factor" and the shooter with the highest hit factor wins the stage; he or she gets 100% of the points for that stage, and everyone else gets a percentage of that score based on how well they did versus the top shooter. For some interesting film clips, check out www.hosercam.com :)

Actually, I finished last at my first USPSA match and I didn't consider that a disaster.

Stealthfixr:

There is a user on the CZ forum who works on military aircraft, would that be you?

As for your classifier score. Classifiers are calculated in a national percentage. It's all explained on the USPSA website. To get your percentage, you need to divide your hit factor by the established high hit factor for the classifier. The high hit factor is set by some pretty salty gunslingers, lol. A hit factor is nothing more than your points divided by your time. In your case you shot 81 points in 31 seconds so your hit factor is 81/31 or 2.6129. To get that into percent you would divide your hit factor by the established high hit factor (which USPSA doesn't release). So, if the high hit factor is for discussion set at 5 and you shot a 2.6129, your percentage would be 2.6129/5 or 52.2 per cent or C class.

You may have to sand the magazines if they are dragging somewhere other than the brake. Mine were tight at the very top rear, sticking against the lockwork insert frame. As said the magazine brake can be replaced or just hammered flat. Don't leave it out, you will hang up on the grip screw bosses when reloading.

I have read of sources of standard capacity magazines, ask around on the CZ forum.

Stealthfixr,

When using 10-round mags - for a BHP/CZ or 1911, most IPSC/3Gun stages can be shot with the mag in the gun, three on my belt, and the "barney bullet" mag (use it to strip the "+1" when loading) in my back pocket. That's 5. For stages that benefit from dropping lots of partial mags, I just add two more carriers.

That doesn't even come close to disaster. I have made a fool of myself in an IPSC match and it wasn't anywhere near my first one.

I've never been to an IPSC shoot and if the videos at www.hosercam.com are an example of the typical contestant, I think I'll stay away. Either I'm real bad, those guys are real good, or most likely, both!

Those guys are impressive.

hosercam

Nolan (the hoser cam guy) is a Master class Open shooter. No need to stay away, shoot in your class with the equipment for your division and enjoy.

MaterDei, everyone of those guys started from scratch nothing, but they started.
When you start you will be Unclassified, after a while you will be given a classification and you
compete against those in your class, D, C, B, A, M, GM.

Disaster? I thought there was going to be fun descriptions of mags falling out and such disasterous stuff like that!

You had fun, so disaster was averted! :)

SDC: Thanks for the Hoser Cam link, I was looking for videos like that!
