Got a chance to go to the range yesterday and shoot my uberti 1858 carbine, it is without a doubt my most accurate bp gun so far, it is so well balanced the balance point is right in front of the trigger, it points and shoots so well its all most boring. The pic of the target shows my first 5 shots at 25 yrds, the 3 shots a little low and to the right were the first out of the barrel, the 2 at the bull are after the sight adjustment, all 5 were shot off hand, the 6 round I shot into a clay pigeon. I sot out two about 50 yrds, the groups weren't quite as tight but all in the black, not the guns fault, most likely coffee, and the monster energy drink I was sipping at the range. The gun has a nice rear sight (pic below). Now for the downside, blowback from the nipples hits you in the left cheek, not to bad but at one point a cap fragment hit me didn't hurt to bad but did break the skin, I have old man skin doesn't take much, you know your getting old when you hurt yourself sleeping. I use remington #10 caps on everything I have. I am wondering if anyone knows if nipples other than the stock ones would help minimize the blowback. Great gun but safety glasses are a must the bigger the better.

Very nice shooting and congratulations on your new carbine. I have wondered how well those carbines shoot. Now I know. Not sure on your question regarding the caps. I use #11s on my Uberti Dragoon, perhaps the cap sitting down lower on the nipple would reduce the fragmentation?

Very nice shooting :)
I have never been touched by a cap (1075 from Dynamit Nobel) when firing mine... but the blowback is so strong with full chambers of swiss 1 bp, that I strongly recommend safety glasses (I wear glasses anyway...).
