I'm wondering what shotguns are good for getting out of bad situations. I've read about Remington and Mossberg models being good. What are some good models to get? I'm looking for a shotgun that holds about 8 catridges, can switch between buckshot and slugs, easy to maintain, not that heavy and less recoil. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Bad situations?

Like being upside down on your mortgage? Like being unemployed? Car won't start?

Usually the best thing to have is knowledge and skill. They don't weigh as much as a firearm.

Where to you live?

If you live out in the middle of no where riots are not a concern. Riots happen in urban and close in suburban areas. Almost forgot and college campuses when the team wins or loses.

Plague you need the right antibiotic or vaccine. Folks arent going to turn into zombies and come banging down you door. They will be too sick.

Anarchy? Okay caused by what? Triggers? I wouldnt worry too much about overeducated urban white left wing condo dwellers they will be too busy texting and playing video games to care. And they dont have a clue about firearms. Other elements of society will prey on them first since they re easy targets with high incomes.

Rush, Sean et al really dont have a clue. Claymores, hotwire fencing and dogs are much better ideas then a shotgun,

There's a million threads here about good shotguns. Mossburg 500 and Remington 870 are probably the most popular. They will both keep working long after you've ceased to function.

We really don't do SHTF threads here, and shotguns are not really the most appropriate answer to riots, anarchy, plague, etc.
