El Rojo's thread on the Norinco 1911 got me thinking. My local shop has a used one for sale. Are Norincos worth it, or is it just a collection of problems in the shape of a 1911? Just so you know, I don't have any experience owning a 1911. I think I want one just to play with though. Am I wasting my time thinnking about this, or should I run screaming back to the shop with $$$ in hand? Let me know.

Thanks in advance.

How much relative to the price of a SA Milspec or Colt 1991-A1?

Norinco was a steal at $225-250 when I got mine. Good guns, too bad they can't be imported any more.

You'll have less problems with the Norinco 1911A1's, and they're spec'ed closer to the original WW-era GI 1911 than most modern variations.

Like wally said, it's a dang shame they can't be imported anymore. Rediculous, really.

If the price is in the $350 Range

I would get it. I just picked up my second one in a trade yesterday (Thanks Rabbi). The one I customized shoots like a dream, better than most of my colts. havent shot the newest one yet, but my first one shot nice before I touched it.

Prisoner6,
If it's at the only indoor range in your county, that's it. I can't decide if I want to have the $$ right now. I could probably come up w/it... but Mrs. Calhoun might not talk to me for a while.

Norinco 1911 are great guns. Made of excellent steel, may not be very well finished on the outside, but it's excellent for the value for what it is, a working gun! The only thing I don't like is the crappy plastic grips and sloppy trigger fitting. I'm already in the process of changing the plastic grips and adding aluminum trigger and beavertail.

Here's mine bone stock, $320 total.

Did you guys forget, that these guns are made by the Communist Chinese?

Did you also forget, that the Communist Chinese sold weapons to some of our other Enemies?

If you can in good faith still buy one, then go ahead.

So What.....You can thank those commies for supplying us with some of the best weapons made....get the Norinco 1911....damn good gun. Alot of our other socalled friends sold our secrets and arms to the Chinese...bet you still buy their crap.

It's also an ideological moot point because these aren't being imported anymore, so whatever money the Chinese have made on them, they've received it and spent it!

I am in NC as well and am I wouldnt mind having another one...That or a new sewing machine:D

The CHIMERA is sick and wont be joining us any time soon..:barf:

Laughable logic there Jason.:p Have another drink.

Take a look around your house. For that matter, in the very computer you're typing from...

should I run screaming back to the shop with $$$ in hand?
YES
If the price is right. I have 2 and am looking for 1 or 2 more. They both have shot every thing that I asked them to.
Both are extremely acurate and reliable

Do you drive a Toyota, Nissan, or Mitsubishi, or a Chevy?Did you know that they are made by the only other country to attack U.S. soil in modern history? ( I know not any more, but let's not let minor facts interfere)

Do you wear Reeboks or Nike? Did you know that they are made in communist Vietnam?

Did you know that no Norinco 1911 sold in the U.S today profits the Reds in any way

Did you know that shopping at Wal-Mart profits the Yellow Scourge more than every Nork ever sold in the U.S. ever did?

Are you kidding me? This has NOTHING to do with the Communist Chinese. I just want to know if the gun is worth the $$$.

I can't take any more of this. I'm off to read my Little Red Book.

Peace Out,

'Rinco

Howdy Calhoun,

Sorry this one got off-topic. I'll get it back on by giving you a simple answer. All political/philosophical rhetoric and BS aside...

The Norincos are in-spec, and made of good steel that meets or exceeds US
Army Ordnance specifications. There is zero MIM or investment cast
"Near-Steel" in the gun, and as I've described them before..."Tough as pig iron."

As the market stands today, I would come closer to paying a Loaded Springfield price for a new, unaltered Norinco than I would pay a Norinco
price for a new, Loaded Springfield.

If the gun has been "customized" with original parts replaced...leave it lay.
Somebody just didn't understand what they really had...unless only the sights have been replaced. That's the one thing that the guns could use.
All other parts are better quality than anything on today's aftermarket.
Yes. The extractor is high quality, spring-tempered steel

Luck!

Thanks Tuner. That's what I was wanting to hear. The sights have been replaced and an ambi-safety has been added (previous owner was a lefty). Other than that it seems to be OK. I have talked to a few people who know the previous owner and have been told he takes good care of his weapons. I have not shot it, but I might try it out when I go to the range tonight. Now if I can only convince the wife what a good deal it is. That's what I really need advice on.

Thanks again folks.

Get the friggin Norinco. They are absolutely good guns. If there are problems, it is quite cosmetic and your trusted gunsmith can fix it. Who cares if their made by the Chinese? You buy their products from Wal Mart and other stores anyway.

If nothing else, you also should change the grips. :) you just don't know how crappy ithey are until you hold the gun in your hands. The rest of the parts are of excellent quality. And the best part is its hard steel. Much better than today's MIM guns.

I recently picked up one of these Norincos, and I can say it's a fine gun. No malfunctions whatsoever. The steel is also much harder than my Springfield's.

FWIW, mine is nickel-plated and appeared nearly unused. I'm sure all the parts were original, even the magazine.

I'll vouch for the Norinco. Mine's been perfect so far. I put some snazzy wood grips on it, and that's all. Go get it!

After they were banned from import by Slick Willie, I just had to try one. Next thing ya know, there's five or six of 'em, mildly tuned/tricked out, in my family. All parts/tolerances in spec, all run like well-oiled Swiss tops--or whatever that analogy about stuff running good is..:D
