Just curious as to others opinions on this round. I've heard so much about how powerful and versatile this round is. I'm in the market for another gun and I've been eyeballing another .45, particularly the Ruger SR1911, but then the 10mm came to mind again. I understand that ammo can be harder to find and its expensive. I've did my research and found that Buffalo Bore and Double Tap are the main premium full house loads for the 10mm. I've thought about the Glock 29 since it would serve me good due to having a conceal permit, but I've also heard good things about the Glock 20 full size pistol. Just looking for advice and personal opinions, thanks in advance!

Well, unbiased views are hard to come by.

I own both a G29 and G20. It is an inexpensive introduction to the 10mm. You'll like the 10 more if you handload, and if your hands are big enough at least for the SF frame.

Even still, the G29 is unique: 11 rounds of 10 in something that small and light.

EAA Witness (compact) is worth looking at, too, if you can find one.

I have nothing negative to say about the round, I say go for it. I am thinking about getting the new re-issue Colt "Delta Elite". I am sure their are better 10mm pistols out their, but as I have said many times before "I am a Colt guy". --Good luck.

Hey thanks guys for the quick replies! I've heard as far as autoloaders go, the 10mm is about the most powerful round until you get up to the Desert Eagle .50AE.

Just for the record, I also don't have anything against the DE .50AE, but it is a huge, bulky gun (More of a novely gun than a practical gun) and has a pretty good kick to it... so I would personally go for the 10mm over it any day of the week. (Not that you were asking about the "DE .50AE", I just had to add that.

I've owned 5, and now just 2, G20 and S&W model 1076, it is a good caliber, and about the same as the 357 magnum, so it has enough power for a camping or hiking handgun.

The .41 and .44 magnum DE are more powerful than the 10mm.

I daily carry a G29 IWB. It's got the Pierce extension, so it's 15+1.

The 10MM, properly loaded, is a wonderfully powerful round. Most 10MM bulk stuff that you see today is simply a more expensive .40 S&W.
If you are looking to get into the round, your choices are kind of limited if you are on a budget:
1. Glock 20 or 29 550-625 or so.
2. EAA Witness 450-550 or so.
3. S&W 10MM pistols, 600 - ? these are no longer in production and can be hard to find. Holsters are also a bit of a PITA to find and one usually has to go the custom route for them.

From there, your choices are going to be the 1911 frame.
1. STI makes a fantastic 10MM gun.
2. Colt recently re-introduced the Delta.
3. Kimber's custom shop makes a 10MM
4. Springfield Armory's custom shop does a 10MM as well I think.

If there's anything I left out folks, please add!
As you can see, your choices are limited. I personally own a S&W 1076, Glock 20, and a S&W 610 Revolver. These are not leaving my collection anytime soon as they're simply too much fun to shoot!

I too use to have a G20, they are very nice, mine never gave a ftf or a fte EVER no matter what I put through it( my reloads or factory ammo). the only thing that I didn't like about it was how " thick" it is due to the double stack mag.( I currently still own 3 glocks so please don't think I'm knocking" them). I also have a ccw & I took this into consideration when I went shopping to replace the G20. I started looking at the colts first, but in the end I ended up with a kimber stainless target 2 & for carrying its just so "thin" in this platform & easy to hide on your hip or under your arm( full size 1911 5" barrel). I've read some stories of people not being happy with thier kimber purchases, I am NOT one of them, I couldn't be happier with it. The Kimber has never given me a ftf or fte with my reloads or factory ammo & is accurate as hell to boot

Thanks everyone for the quick replies and all the cool details :) My local gun shop has a used gen 3 Glock 20 for 429.99. That's a great price in my book! Still on the fence though about waiting for the SR1911 to become available somewhere close by, or just bite the bullet and go 10mm Glock and get the Ruger next year. I've read that the 45 ACP Glocks have 10mm conversion barrels available as well as 400 Corbon. Do any of yall know anything about the conversion? I'd love to get a Glock 30 and be able to convert to a 29. I've did my own research and have seen that its possible to do this, but some say you have to change the extractor out too, then some say its not neccesary. My Glock 23 converts to a G32, and a G19. For the 32 I just drop in the .357 barrel and use the same .40 cal mags. To do the 9mm I use a Lone Wolf conversion barrel and use standard G19 mags; works great.

.45 Winchester Magnum
.400 Corbon
.40 super
.45 Rowland
.41 Magnum
.44 Magnum

Got my Glock 20SF a few months back and think it's great - fits my hand perfectly and the gun is actually very controllable considering the round it's firing.

$430 for a used M20 sounds like a good buy.

I have (and have had) a passel of 1911's. Finally got hold of an (old generation) Colt Delta Elite in 10mm. I have no 'digs' against either the DE or the 10, but it just really didn't do anything for me. Sent it on down the road for 50% more than I gave for it.

the g29 is a fantastic firearm. I cc it. The 10mm is a fantasic round to go along with it. If you reload (which i rec with the 10mm) you will really appreciate the versatility. Get one and dont look back.

DO IT, DO IT, DO IT!

You say you were thinking about "another" .45 which tells us that you already have at least one of those. And you don't have any 10mm's. I like variety...so I'd add a 10mm to the lineup.

I bought an original Colt Delta Elite in 10mm this year and I love the thing. I re-load so ammo availability isn't an issue...and it is so easy for me to shoot...most of it is surely that the gun just fits me well...but I almost can't miss with that thing.

DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!

YES! No Questions.

Not only is the price of your local gun shop G20 a great price, your getting a great gun for a great deal.

I carry my 29 or 20 every day....one or the other. Both are great guns and 10mm makes 40S&W look pretty shabby. It is great for reloading. The cases are generally very good sturdy design and hold up well.

It is one flat shooting, hard hitting round that is head and shoulders better than all of it's competition. It generates more energy at 100 yards than 45 Acp does at the muzzle. What's more is it shoots accurately and flat enough to be of use at 100 yards.

I try to get everyone I know to support 10mm. It needs more love than it gets and the respect it deserves. It is well engineered and should be supported.

Good stuff... I am a big fan....as you can tell ;):D

Being a .45 guy.....just where is the place for the 10mm or even the .40cal......I just don't get it.
I understand the jump from the 9mm to the .45acp....but what's the advantages of the others....I don't get it.

I, like many others, own and love my 10mm. But like many others said and will say you should probably get into reloading if you intend to shoot it regularly. I just reloaded 50 rounds for when I go to the range tommorow. If I didn't it would cost me roughly $28 a box of downloaded ammo (which is fine because there's really no need to beat yourself or your gun up when you're killing paper) and a twenty minute trip to the nearest store that sold it. Plus I get to reload it to its potential of whatever I please rather than being at the mercy of whatever the store decides to order.

I've owned a first generation Delta Elite since the 80s and have been handloading the 10mm since the early 90s. I now own a Glock 29 which has taken over the duties of woods carry, what my beloved Delta had provided over all these years. The Delta still looks lovely and now has a honored spot in the safe. The G29, ugly as hell, took over with aplomb, as Glocks generally do.

Maybe one day I will handload and then again maybe I won't. It's not as bad as some paint it out to be just buying ammo. I have found those who DO reload will buy your spent brass. That offsets some of the cost and I have been doing much work sorting out the 10mm ammo players out there and how their ammo actually performs over the Chrony. It's no longer a DoubleTap or Buffalo Bore game getting good real 10mm ammo.

As a matter of fact I asked BVAC about theirs this week. Little did I know you could call them up and ask for heavier loaded ammo than Cheaper Than Dirt carries. I plan on ordering up some and seeing how it performs.

Also some places you can send your brass back for reloading to save some money.

Pair of 10's.

They have a lot of holster time between them.
Flat shootin' hard hitting.

When I got out of LE and put my duty .41 mag on the shelf, I put a 10mm in my holster.
