Should I rest the mainspring?

People complain about the recoil spring weight on the P938 and it's impact on the trigger? I guess I got a good one.

Those people should try and original XDs-45. That's a heavily sprung gun.

Does anyone bother to read the OPs? The OP is asking about the mainspring/hammer spring and when it needs to be replaced because he leaves the gun cocked and locked all the time. He knows that Sig recommends replacement every 5,000 rounds but he wants to know if he should do it early. What does a recoil spring have to do with that question?

I answered him right away that he will be fine leaving the P938 cocked and locked. I have had mine for several years and it stays cocked and locked all the time with no ill effects the I shoot it. I have to agree that the thread went off the rail. The OP never asked about recoil springs or even magazine springs.

Hey sorry gents. I haven’t been sleeping much and I read that before the coffee kicked in and totally failed to follow what the hell was going on. Mainspring, not recoil spring. Recoil spring makes no sense at all in this context.

Sorry for the stupid post. Now if you’ll excuse me I have some more reading to do from this month’s issue of “Duh” magazine.

From the horse’s mouth:

Thank you for contacting SIG Sauer.

Leaving the P938 cocked with the safety on will cause no damage to the pistol. The only way to safely lower the hammer is to fire a live round, or dry fire the pistol. We do not recommend lowering the hammer on a live round.

Regards,

Amy Lord
