There is a lot of side play (1/16") in a new powder measure I just bought and I wonder if this is a common trait with this powder measure. If it is a common trait can anybody tell me how you dealt with the issue? I did a search and found nothing indicating there is an issue with measure. There wasn't much side play on my old, old Uni-flow.

F. Guffy,

Thank you for your help. I will call RCBS in the morning and hopefully it will be the solution I've been looking for and the parts are available. I knew this was the place to get an answer. Best Regards and thanks again.

Just curious.....what does a part for an old Piggyback powder measure have to do with the newest Uniflow design, which the new Quick Change is? I think Mr. Guffy is talking about the wrong "Quick Change". I'm betting the picture below is the P.M. the O.P. just bought. Calling RCBS is still the right action....maybe just don't order a part for a different old design. BTW, while you are on the phone with them ask if the oversized Quick Change hopper will fit a regular UniFlow......a lot of us would like to know!!:) Would be nice for larger rifle loading.

BTW, I doubt that 1/16" side play will affect charge size.......anyone know different, for sure?

I think side play can only be due to the metering assembly diameter being 1/16" smaller than the slot in the powder measure casting.....only a tighter casting could help...or some kind of sleeve to increase diameter of the outside of the metering assembly. If I had one I might try sliding a short piece of 1/32" walled clear rigid tubing over it.....but that would probably be too tight. Perfect fit would be a miracle so you'd probably have to try the size just under, and slice it on one side so you can spread it to fit.....may be worth a try if the play bothers you.

I have been using one for about a year now. The side play you speak of has not been an issue for me. I am only guessing, but maybe it has to with changing out the metering cartridge with the emptying tube. It can be a little tricky but after a few tries I got the hang of it. The unit meters very well and does not leak, even with accurate #7. Recently I installed mine on a Redding T7 using a Hornady case activated actuator. It took a little doing but well worth the effort, what a time saver. Overall I am pleased with it . My only negative is that I think the powder hopper is too big.

If the powder measure belong to me and it had .0625 end play I would select a thin round rubber 'O' ring from an assortment tray that would slide over the bushing. Thin 'O' rings can be purchased from automotive parts stores and Home Depot type stores.

or just wrap some aluminum duct tape around it. But I doubt it's a real problem.

RCBS Quick Change powder measure

I tried calling RCBS today and was put on hold for about 15 minutes and then an operator told me their was nobody there to take my call. At that point I thanked her and decided to return it and I will try a Redding powder measure and hopefully they are of better quality. Thanks for you all for your help and suggestions.

Although I haven't measured the slop, I did see a noticeable cylinder sideplay on my RCBS Quick Change as well. I always figured it was normal. Been using it a few months now and it's wonderfully consistent in powder though. Been using Accurate #7 as well, no leaks at all.
