Hi fellow shooters:

I'm trying to help a friend with a Sig 2022 that has a heavy DA pull. Any kits out there that will help improve the pull? How heavy is the stock hammer spring and how light of a hammer spring can you get away with and maintain reliable strikes?

Have you tried out his trigger?

I only ask because the 2022 is known for having the best DA trigger pull (of DA/SA pistols) in the SIG line. Every 2022 I've handled (6-7) has had a very nice DA first shot pull

My 2022 has the best double action trigger of any gun I've ever shot or owned. A very under rated pistol IMHO.

How old is the pistol?

My wife's 2022 trigger was pretty awful out of the box. I wondered what everybody was raving about. It was like dragging a bag of sand through a gravel pit. I liked the pistol though and bought one for myself (since I was going to be loading nine...). Sweet!

So I deliberately left all the old oil & crud in the wife's frame & only cleaned it every 3rd or 4th range trip. About the 4th cleaning (about 500-ish rounds) it was like whatever burr was hanging things up polished out. The trigger is really nice now. There's another trick but I'm not going to recommend it. Has to do with marriage & parts.

I did try his trigger. Super gritty and stacking first pull. I didn't measure it on my scale but it felt like about 10 pounds (which is ok) but the way the weight stacks felt bad to me.

I'd like to go a little lighter on the hammer spring and polish the sear and disconnector.

Something is not right with your friends 2022. As epiphany and others said, its hard to find a better da pull in a service 9mm that the 2022s. If he/she uses the sig for any serious purpose, better send it to sig. We all hate doing that, but there is a downside in the home grade trigger job. One, possible failure. Two, pulling a lightened da trigger in self defense will open you to the charges of premeditated intent to kill someone.
Another clean way of dealing with the problem is trading it in, as the budget permits.

I'll get the gun from him and make sure it's properly lubed and dry-fire it a bunch and see how it feels. I don't know how many rounds he has through it (I don't think very many) so it might just be breaking in, I don't know. This is the first SP2022 I have encountered first-hand.

Breaking in is not required by sig afaik. They are all gtg out of box. The rest is up to you of course. I trained there and heard nothing but good about 2022 which not necessarily is the case with all models.
