I see that Sig has now released a Legion version of the P220 in 10mm. I note that it has the usual alloy frame of the 45 ACP P220.

Is an alloy frame 10mm a bad idea? Will it stand up to the 10mm cartridge?

I'm not a big SIG guy, but looking at SIG's site, it isn't clear to me the 10mm version is on the aluminum frame. It shows a 5" barrel for the 10mm P220 Legion (the .45 ACP has the typical P220 4.4" barrel), and I always thought the 5" SIG's had steel frames. I suspect somebody that knows SIGs will pop in and clarify.

If you click on "specs" and scroll down to "frame", it says it is alloy, but I am not sure if they are talking about 45 or 10mm.

Those specs are clearly for the .45 ACP model. It says so at the top of the column.

I don't know though if the 10mm version uses the same frame, but it does have the longer barrel. As I mentioned it is unclear to me.

The Legion version has been out for a few months now.

The SAO and DA/SA Elite versions have a stainless steel frame with various finishes. The weight is listed at 39.4 oz.

Sig's listing for this gun is weird. They originally released a DA/SA version and that's the one I own.
View media item 1078Then they came out with an all stainless version, an all black one, a scorpion, and the kryptec SAO versions. While the other finishes are out on the market and easily found on Gunbroker.com, Sig has never had a complete list of the finishes available for the 10mm P220. I'd be interested in a SAO stainless version.

I dream of an all stainless DA/SA P227 in 10mm.

The Legion model says the frame material is alloy, and the listed weight is 30.4 oz.

One can surmise from these details that the Legion version uses the light weight alloy frames that many other Sigs use, unless Sig just listed it incorrectly. Deductive reasoning seems a better conclusion to me though.
Are you reading that from the "spec" page at the SIG web site? Note is says .45 ACP at the top of the column and shows a 4.4" barrel. The 10mm Legion shows a 5" barrel (see the "models" section on the web page) which would, no doubt, mean the .45 ACP and 10mm versions would not both weigh 30.4 oz.

Yes, and I believe they also have 5" barrels like the 10mm Legion.

I suspect there is missing information on the SIG web site, and before making any assumptions, I'd wait for clarification from somebody that really knows the answer.

Ah, I did miss that. I see your point. Guess I need more coffee because if I'd read more carefully to begin with I would have seen that that info was already posted earlier. Sorry.

That is confusing indeed and I guess you're right. Better wait for an owner of a Legion version to show up. I'll fix my post so it isn't confusing.

I've got one of the all steel, 5" models, the Scorpion.

It IS heavy, but makes full power 10mm loads VERY pleasant to shoot. Really tames recoil.
I went all steel as I intend to shoot full power loads the majority of the time.

You may want to ask this over on the SIG Forum. I don't have enough experience with tens to give You a valid reply.
