Sig 220 or HK USP

If you're planning on carrying it, get the standard P220. It is significantly lighter than the ST and handles beter IMO.

The USP is a fine handgun but doesn't compare in handling characteristics to the standard P220.

Capacity is also an issue here...if you want to ledge the P220 against the USP.45F, the USP wins with 12+1 as opposed to 8+1. However, the USP.45F is, essentially, a fullsize... the USP.45C has 8+1 just as the SIG does.

Personally, I find the USP decocker/safety much more appealing than the characteristic SIG decocker (too mushy, IMO) It's really a meaningless quibble, but I prefer the USP's cleanth of function.

Greeting's All-

I've stayed out of this debate 'til now :( , but I must cast my vote for
the world class SIG-SAUER P220A. The reason, my standard P220A has
NEVER let me down. But, neither did the .45 caliber H&K USP-F that I
owned for a short-short. :uhoh: I guess it comes down to which one
you prefer; and for me that was the SIG P220A. I have enjoyed this
gun perhaps more than any other that I've owned; and there has been
a bunch of 'em! :D

Both are fine handguns and you're well served with either one.

I would personally go with the H&K only because I already have a Sig.

HK holds 50% more rounds, at the cost of grip size. HK can be carried cocked and locked, Sig cannot. Sigs can be bought certified pre-owned from the factory, USP cannot. Other than that, they both are accurate and reliable.

But then, the Smith 4566TSW is on par with the USP and P220 in this size, and the CZ 97B, and Ruger KP90 are excellent as well - all of which can be had NIB for $375-450.

As for me, I chose a 4566TSW, and an HK P9S-45 Target as my non-1911 45s.

Went ahead and ordered a Sig 220 ST and ordered a set of rosewood checkered hogue grips for it.

Thanks for all the input. May order a USP compact .45 in the near future as well.

Sorry, but that obtuse article about locks suddenly engaging is completely bogus in this conversation. It doesn't even mention HK. I've NOT ONCE read or heard of an HK integral lock failing safe. Mine was shipped with the lock off and I haven't messed with it since purcahse.

Head over to HKPRO and ask that question and I'll bet you get the same response.
